Hey guys/gals,
My son has became very interested in buying a Saleen Focus.
What are some of the things we need to be aware of as being a Focus owner?
I have read several threads here at FF and you guys seem to be the experts so you input is valuable to us.
yes something you need to be seriously aware of is that they are fun to drive, alot of fun to drive and be prepared to have to buy your son a different car after buying the focus because you will steal the focus from him so you can drive it[;)] [:D]

I'm not sure I'd go that far, necessarily, but they are good cars.
I am NO Saleen expert, and work's busy enough I cant really pour myself into research, however the Saleen charged a hefty premium for a few specific upgrades. The most famous one is they are plumbed and primed for nitrous oxide use (read: NOS). Nitrous isnt everybody's cup of tea, it's cheap speed, it's also illegal (or is it questionably legal?) on the street, and using the system they installed instantly voids the warranty on the powertrain.
Saleen suspension is also improved over the standard Focus. The Saleen kit uses stiffer springs that lower the car something like 1.5" lower than the standard suspension; it uses different struts and shocks matched to these stiffer springs, and different sway bars front and rear. It will be a much stiffer ride. They stick their own body kit on the car, which is a little loud for my tastes, but you can google Saleen Focus to see for yourself. It looks like they touch up the interior too.
Your son is interested in a pre-modified Focus, this is really what you should know. There are some Saleen owners on the board, hopefully they will pop in.

There have been three BRAND NEW 2005 Saleen Focus on eBay in the past few weeks. One even had the 12" brake upgrade. There are plenty of cars around for sale, but, being so costly new owners are looking to get out from under the crazy payments they have because they fell in love with the car 2 years ago. The NEW cars could have been bought for the $18-$19,000 range, none sold. I am not willing to step up and pay that for the car at this point. I have time to settle in and wait for exactly what we want to buy. 2005, white, white wheels, and the optional brake and audio upgrades would be a huge plus.
