: hmmm I guess I should get an exhaust now?

right now, i only have an RT high flow cat and i never really wanted an aftermarket cat-back because i don't think it would be worth it on a NA SVT. but now i have my NX kit installed and i'm thinking it would be a good idea to get an aftermarket exhaust. i've got all that extra oxygen going into the engine so i'm sure it could come out MUCH faster than it is now (which could mean more hp) with the exhaust setup i have on currently.

i would like suggestions from you guys as to whether or not you think i need an exhaust because of the nitrous and what size/brand exhaust to go with.

thanks!

3 inch header back, go big or go home
tru bendz has a great kit just don't get it with the borla muffler, get it with the magnaflow

trubendz 3" ftw, it's got proven gains on NA SVT's

well, lol, also keep in mind this is a daily driver that runs a couple thousand miles a month/20k miles a year and a 3 in would be WAAAAY too loud for my likeing. my last car i had, i put a 2.5 in header back with a coffee can muffler and i ended up hating it after like a year, it was just way too loud for me.... idk

The exhaust is only as loud as the muffler allows. You could go 3" and still have a rather mild tone - you would just need to throw a big muffler and resonator at it. Which, in essence, negates the fact that you went to a 3" exhaust.

exactly, if i do that, there would be a restriction at the muffler at the end of the exhaust and defeat the purpose of having it...

if i got a 3in header back i would be getting rid of the HFC obviously, not sure i wanna do that. at the same time, it wouldn't be worth going with a 3in cat-back because of the restriction at the HFC. maybe a SS 2.5in cat-back???? grrr tough decision.

for the gains, i understand a 3in would be ideal, especially when there's a gain NA, i'm sure even more of a gain when using the nitrous!! but i'm not sure i wanna have an obnoxiously annoying exhaust when i drive this thing 20k miles a year.

at the same time, a 2.5in isn't that much bigger than the stock cat-back but would probably be best with my current HFC. i would get a little bit of a gain and would flow a little better with a 2.5. what's it at stock again? like 2.3 or something?

just found out the stock piping is 2.28346457 inches LOL

3" isnt any louder than a 2.5 or 2.25 it is just deeper. i have a 3" with only the resinator and a turbo to quiet it. not loud at all.

get a 3inch and have it with a big ole muffler and resonator but have an electronic controlled cutoff right before them

You have a turbo though...that quiets it down a crap load.

yeah i know. but at one point i had a the stock cat and every thing with a focus sport stealth and it was still louder than my 3" with the turbo and resonator. oh well though neither were to loud and the 3" sounds so much better. a lot deeper.

here ya go. you can hear it pretty good in this video.

My exhaust is loud.... but its a good kind of loud.

I would just do a trubendz cat back... either 2.5 or 3 inch I dont hink you'll see much of a difference and it wont be as loud since you do have the RT HFC.

yeah i'm kinda leaning towards a 2.5 catback. i'm sure it'll go good (as far as flow goes) with the HFC. the catback will flow a little better being a little bit more than .2 inches bigger

not sure what muffler to go with though. maybe borla?...

I would just order the exhaust pipe "KIT" and go get your own muffler... that way you can be SURE that the muffler doesnt taper down inside the muffler body.

get a 3inch orp, a tru bendz 3 inch exhaust with resonator and muffler of your choice. then get an electronic y-gate put on before the resonator and muffler. you'll have a switch in the cabin that will let you bypass the muffler and resonator and dump the exhaust

oh wow that's interesting!

With 3" exhaust the electric cutout is useless.

FYI you cant BUY a 3" ORP for an SVT.... it has to be custom made.

i have a mig, saw-zaw and access to a mandrel bender, plus a tig welder. The point of the cut out is that kevin wants to run a quiet, thus restrictive muffler and resonator, but on the occasion that the giggle gas is happening he wants to let it come out as fast as it is coming in.

You dont have to have a restrictive muffler to be quiet.... with the turbo and any descent muffler the car will be quieter than what you think.

Damn old threads... for the millionth time, Tom's dyno does not prove any NA gains for a 3" flex-back. The gain was from replacing the cat pipe with 3" piping, aka Off-Road Pipe.

Just posting the link for Sean, my bad for bringing up an old thread?

I think we all know this? Who said otherwise?
