its better to run rich while breaking in. as the rings and bearings are trying to seat, it causes more friction and more heat. The extra fuel helps keep internal cyl temps lower. Thats why as you lean out your a/f ratio, your engine and water temps go up! burns better and hotter.

Also, what type of ECU/engine management are you using? does it have a F/I tune on it?

If you are running a forced induction tune without the turbo it will do that. The tune has been made richer for the turbo. If the turbo is not on, it does not require as much fuel, and will therefore produce a "little" black smoke. If you are seeing a lot of smoke you may need to investigate further.

If you are running a turbo tune. You may also be fouling the plugs due to a rich condition. May want to take a look at them.

Even if your running a "turbo tune" in cruise or moderate part throttle you should NEVER see black smoke

On a new engine you DO NOT want a rich condition fuel is abrasive and can cause the rings to not seat properly. New engine , old engine you want a crooect and proper AF ratio all the time

You need to contact your tuner and have him do some adjustments before other issues show up

Exactly what i was thinking, when i blew my eng and got a build one with my turbo setup i just broke it in with the turbo but i just never boosted. Just took it easy and everything is fine. That was 3-4 years back, and not prob (knock on wood).
P.S. Tom how would I know if i need a new ring?

Also you need to consider what kind of oil you are running.... you should NOT run synthetic oil during breaking, if you do it'll never seat the rings properly.

What if they did use synthetic when braking, how bad is that?

Eating oil...loss of compression....

how savvier will the eating of oil be? B/c there is some oil burning but i don't think its the turbo.

Do a compression test and/or a leak down test
