: MY focus got hit hard while parked, help.
Impaled 07-27-2007, 10:44 AM Come out from wal mart last night and low and behold someone hit my car while i was parked... now i honestly wouldn't make a fuss about some minor knicks or stratches my car is kinda a war machine with some battle scares.
But my quarter panel is smashed in to all hell, it cracked my gas cap in half and dislodged the rear bumper so much that it's about an inch out of place on the oposite side of the car. [bigcry]
I do have insurance, the car is registered under my mothers name and is insured under her name aswell, we'll be calling the insurance office later tonight when i get off work.
But here's what i'm wondering...
1)The car has only been on the policy for about a month.
2)Will my premiums go up?
3)how do they handle hit and runs like that should i have called the police?
As far as i'm aware, i can file the insurance claim, take the car to the dealership and get the highest quote possible...show insurance that and they'll cut me a check for the estimate?
I'm seriously a poor student and my parents aren't ever in any situation where they can help me so this is kind of worrying me to death
Any good advice/insight/story of your insurance claims would me most appreciated.
Oh by the way i i have Geico full coverage.
Thanks everyone
FleaWannaBe 07-27-2007, 10:51 AM sorry to hear bro. but usally a insurance adjuster will come out to your home check it out and give a check. dont cash the check because it wont be enough for everything and theyll need to give you more money i gurantee it and i dont have to right you another check if you cash that one.
but now you can get new rear bumper. rs or svt.
nepafocus03 07-27-2007, 10:51 AM well, when my car got keyed, my insurance (state farm) premiums did not go up. So, hopefully yours wont either. and they had me get 2 estimates, then they took the lower of the 2 and cut me a check for the lower amount minus my deductible. hope this helps and hope everything works out for you. walmart parking lots seem to be cars worst nightmares. i got a deep little scrape on my rear bumper about a month ago there.
WUGcatsvt 07-27-2007, 10:54 AM Im sorry that sux
Hillyard 07-27-2007, 11:09 AM The Walmart's around here are near other big stores like Lowes and Home Depot. I always park in those lots and then walk to Wal-Mart...lol Gotta get my Mobil 1 oil and filter for under 25 dollars.
focusonthefocus 07-27-2007, 11:15 AM Find out if you can get the video from Wal-Mart. They have lots of video of their parking lots in my area. Perhaps you can get a plate.

I had thought of that, but upon further inspection i couldn't find a camera pole close to where i was parked. It had to be some kind of SUV or Truck because the damage is so high. And i don't see any paint on my car so i'd assume a nice steel bumper got me and more then likely barely scratched the persons vehical.
I'll post some pictures up when i get a chance, later tonight more then likely.
Thanks for the responses guys.
DrkKnight614 07-27-2007, 01:54 PM why didnt you call the police again?
phord_phocus86 07-27-2007, 02:19 PM Wish I had some advice for you, that sucks alot and I hope things work out for you.
I know you probly paniced when you saw it, but if you had tried to keep a clear mind you might have thought to go right back into walmart and ask for video tapes, or if any employee had seen it. I would have called the police, and also went back in and bought a disposable camera and taken some pictures of the car in the scene.
Best of luck to you, and please keep us posted on what happens I would really liek to know incase that ever happens as my car is set up the same way as yours (moms name and insurance just cuz its cheaper for all of us that way).

Ditto, every Walmart I have been too has cameras out the wazzooo

The camera are usually on the top of the building. I'd go see the store manager and find out if they can review the footage and see who hit you
Good luck man, I know how it feels to have your car hit and someone take off.[bigcry]
stivo 07-27-2007, 02:42 PM Your insurance will cover it you if you have full coverage. Go to Ford for your estimates since they will generally charge the most, but get the work done a private shop with the best reputation in town.
I have Mercury insurance ans they always recommend the best shops and pay the bill (less my deductible).
Good luck!
thedashingbuddha 07-27-2007, 04:44 PM Yes, check the video cameras. They are all over the place. Wal-mart might want you to have a police report, but if the car that hit you is on camera and you can get a plate life would be good. Isn't a hit and run a felony?
nepafocus03 07-27-2007, 06:06 PM just wanted to add that my gf works at wal-mart and she told me her car got a new scratch on it.
bumblebee07 07-27-2007, 06:11 PM I've got full coverage with Geico as well. I had a similar scuffle with an SUV in the walmart parking lot. Never was determined who was at fault, however my rate didnt go up and they fixed my car.
SkaAddict 07-27-2007, 06:55 PM why didnt you call the police again?
Probably because they'd tell you to go f-yourself. Seriously, unless this happened in a city where the police have absolutely nothing to do all day besides write traffic tickets for window tint and car stereos being too loud, the cops won't come out unless someone is bleeding on the pavement while unconscious in a private parking lot. It happened to my mom about 10 years ago, she got t-boned in a parking lot and even though the PD was literally right across the street from where she was, they wouldn't come out because it was on "private property." The best you'll be able to do is go to the department and file a report in person, which would be a good idea as undoubtedly your insurance will want a police report number.
You could try to get access to the store's security camera, but in my experience with WM store managers (of which I have a great deal because of my job that has me routinely working in Wal-Marts) they're typically unconcerned unless you're doing something for them or buying something, if you have a complaint or are asking them to do something for you they typically blow you off.
1stTimeFocus00 07-27-2007, 07:10 PM Damn dude that blows
Impaled 07-29-2007, 11:46 AM Ok update, i went to the wal mart and explained what happened. They just sort of sighed and asked where i was parked, i explained the best i could and shesaid no way will any of it be on tape cause it was too dark out and i was parked too far away
Most likely bullshit. So i asked her where she parked and she told me the side of the building...then asked her what kinda car she had, and was asked to leave the store. lol so no wal mart help for me?
And i had thought about calling the police but for one, the insurance or car is NOT under my name and i want my mother to file the claim, for two i have a warrant or two so...
Will have to wait for my mother to get back so i can get the story straight with her, going to have to pretend like it was her at the store when it happend, since i never drive the car ;)

Yeah you're spot on with that one, and the only other way would be by warrant. And that isn't going to happen.
Impaled 07-29-2007, 12:29 PM here's some crappy pics my cam died while i was taking em
You can see how dislodged the bumper is ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE CAR
