: j&s is on
Turbo Turtle 06-06-2007, 04:13 PM i got my j&s is on and appears to be operating. i need to know how it needs to be set up. i ran it with it set like it came in and as soon as i get pass 4k rpm it takes all kinds of power away from my car. but the gauge doesnt say it is taking any timing. i just unplugged it so i could drive home with out the hassle from it, lol. i know there are boost and start knobs on it but it doesnt say how they need to be set. i had the sensitivity set to ~1/2 way. it is set on for cylinder, whole engine, 20* settings. basically the max on all i guess. any suggestions on setting this thing.[thankyou]

jrpasmo 06-06-2007, 04:20 PM If you don't have J&S plugged to the vacuum line u don't need to set up boost knob....did you try to tap on your block to see if it's working and gauge is showing timing that has been taken away ?

Turbo Turtle 06-06-2007, 04:25 PM i havent done that yet. i ran out of time in the shop. it is hooked up to vacuum.
1turbofocus 06-06-2007, 04:38 PM Make sure it is working properly , it shouldnt be pulling any timing if your not seeing the Gauge go crazy and light up unless you have it set to pull for boost and you shouldnt

jrpasmo 06-06-2007, 05:41 PM Hmmmm mine engine has to be super quiet as I saw only pulling like 4deg. in higher rpms (for a split seconds) on my way back home and sensitivity is on max. I'm going to tap on my block to see if everything is fine..
jrpasmo 06-06-2007, 05:49 PM tls_bmx ... one question...where did u install J&S unit ? It looks like it's under your steering wheel... and first step from instalation manual :
1. The unit must be installed in the passenger compartment....

Wouldn't that be considered in the passenger compartment since the steering wheel is in the passenger compartment?

jrpasmo 06-06-2007, 06:52 PM ^^ I thought it shoud be placed closed to the ecu...liek in glove box....OK, i just did my testing...knocking on piece of pipe I run between intake manifold and engine (the end was touching block) and I was taping on that pipe with wrench....J&S was working....
Turbo Turtle 06-06-2007, 07:07 PM yeah it is under the steering wheel and that is in the passenger compartment, it definitely isnt in the engine compartment, lol. i dont know if it is set to pull for boost or not, how do i adjust for that? there are 2 knobs for boost retard. and the gauge only did what it was suppose to when i started the car then after that nothing. i will go check to see if it is working.
Turbo Turtle 06-06-2007, 07:53 PM i tried to check it but i couldnt get it to do any thing. is the gauge suppose to do any thing at idle because mine isnt doing any thing. i dont think my gauge is working. my light is flashing on the j&s at idle but not the gauge. i tapped on the block the best i could reach with a pipe and had the vacuum source off and it held at 2k and set it on max sensitivity and it didnt do any thing. i will try it again tomorrow when i can get it on a lift and actually get to the knock sensor. the gauge does light up and everything before i crank the motor but as soon as i do it stops. i got it to stop bogging my car now. i reset the boost start and rate.[?|]
and as soon as i unhooked that vacuum source the idle smoothed out and it started trimming the fuel.[dunno]
jrpasmo 06-06-2007, 07:55 PM ^^^ heheh ok now I understand...that boost...based on instruction...first knob (boost) is adjustible ... 0 to 10PSI.I put mine completelly on the left (minimum=0PSI) and second one is adjustable timing retard for boost...0 to 2 degrees for PSI...I got mine on minimum 0 deg. as well..... so I think u can use those two if u have hooked up that manifold vacuum and for ex. u set up boost knob to the middle (5PSI) and second knob to the middle (1 degree) it will automatically pull 1 degree of timing per psi after u hit 5 PSI(including) ...maybe I'm wrong ;_) Won't be the first time ;-)))
Turbo Turtle 06-06-2007, 07:57 PM yeah you have yours set the same as mine. not to pull any thing for boost
jrpasmo 06-06-2007, 08:19 PM my gauge it's not showing anything at idle...and it shouldn't as j&s got activated on higher rpms... i did everything from the top...
Turbo Turtle 06-06-2007, 09:24 PM well i thought it said as long as the rpm's are below 980 it would pulse and when you brought them up it would switch to the retard mode
1turbofocus 06-07-2007, 07:28 AM Read the "test" instructions closely

Turbo Turtle 06-07-2007, 12:13 PM i got it to work. the gauge and everything is working. i set it on max sensitivity and drove the hell out of it on the way to school. it is working. i got it to make one light and i could tell when it did.
1turbofocus 06-07-2007, 12:56 PM 1 light is nothing to worry about
