: MidWest G2G-Mt Rushmore? Yellowstone?
How's about a MidWest G2G one of these days?
Looks like there could be some interest.
Clicky (http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12097)
Yellowstone or Mt Rushmore would offer some great photo ops.
Too far for the CO crowd?
I know a certain NM member (above "clicky") said they were up for a road-trip.
Hmmmm.
Lemme check the SCCA Solo2 (AutoCross) schedule in the area too.
They have been known to have events near the IMAX in West Yellowstone.
There's also Billings which isn't that far from Mt Rushmore.
Could you imagine it?
Meet a bunch of new folks, gather a bunch of Foci for some LEGAL racing,
then do some site seeing, pic taking, road-tripping.....[thumb]
What do ya think?
crazy_urn 04-22-2004, 03:23 PM yellowstone sounds like fun to me [thumb] and that would be some awesome pics.
it depends on when and other stuff like that, but if i can afford the time off work, and can get it, count me in.
Shady R 04-24-2004, 01:39 AM I'd do the mount rushmore if any one would be interested. If it works out that would rock, being from south dakota it gets kinda lonely and no one seems to want any thing to do with a focus out here. It's like I'm stuck in the 1920's out here and I'm the only one who loves this car and the rest act as if it where poison. damn I miss Chicago. Time for a road trip.Lets do it.
Cool!
That's a couple "takers".
It's like I'm stuck in the 1920's out here
I know what you mean!
Hmmm, seeing as I got the post going...
What's everyone's opinion on when to have a G2G?
ShadyR, you're the closest to Mt Rushmore.
What's a good time for scenery?
Spring, Fall?
Yellowstone's always good for scenery!
We make it down there a few times a year, as we always purchase the Nat Parks Pass,
and can get in anywhere.
smoknzx3 04-24-2004, 12:38 PM I would like to go but it depends on when. I need to take off work. This summer some time? I'm going to have my kids this summer, so they would have to come with. My son would get a kick out of a few foci's
crazy_urn 04-24-2004, 10:57 PM i think summer would be the best, july or august?
IMO, yellowstone would be better then mt rushmore. i dont think it would be possible to get a pic with mt rushmore in the background. besides, i just think yellowstone is cooler. but that is just my opinion. sry shady
Shady R 04-24-2004, 11:54 PM July or August would be ok for me. MT Rushmore is closer to me and honestly if you don't go in the summer it's just not worth going. South Dakota only has two seasons, winter for 8 months and summer for 4 months. Yellow Stone is a bit of a drive for me but I would go there to. I agree that the photo ops at Y stone would be great and sense I have never been there it would be nice to see. But I just hate to put that many miles on my car. Well I don't know, I guess what ever you guy's would want to do would be ok with me. For sure though count me in for being there. WD40 are you saying that you will cordinate the festivities and pict ops? Between august 1rst and the 9th would be real bad for me. I get married on the 7th of August so please don't put it between those days.
Cool!
WD40 are you saying that you will cordinate the festivities and pict ops?
I suppose I wouldn't mind.[;)]
Let me put my "orginization" hat on, and come up with a couple polls.
1 for the date, and 1 for the location.
Now that I'm getting involed in AutoCross (http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12535) again, I'll have to work around that schedule.
So, I take it most folks would like to plan around a weekend, correct?
I'm sure most of you are in the same "boat" as me, and need to work for a living.[:D]
RS-wagon 04-26-2004, 07:37 PM I vote Rapid City/Mt Ruchmore being it would be about Center of our region.
Well I do have contacts with a photographer/writer for the Rapid paper.
Dates for Autocrosses in Rapid City:
May 9,16 June 20,27 July 11,25 Aug 15,29.
The Black Hills sports car club is a good bunch of people, and hold first class events.
Tim
RS-wagon 04-27-2004, 07:20 PM Yeah I was thinking a show and shine at Canyon lake. then cruise Rushmore rd. Tour the hills Hit Rushmore then head over to iron mtn road and up the pig tails. Good photo ops there.
You guys with the euro SVTs better wathc out when we meet you might find yourself with differant rims. [:)~] [:)~] [rofl] I want a set of SVT euros for my wagon.
Tim
dingaling 04-29-2004, 05:48 AM Canyon Lake is a great place for photos. I will also check around for a few more places. Just about anyplace up in the hills are great too. Maybe even Crazy Horse.
Focus_ryter 04-29-2004, 03:30 PM I might be interested in this G2G. It would be great to do a auto-x up there too. I just need to know some dates...
dingaling 04-29-2004, 05:31 PM Canyon Lake is a great place for photos. I will also check around for a few more places. Just about anyplace up in the hills are great too. Maybe even Crazy Horse.
This is great response.
Give me a week or so, and I'll put something together to keep track of all the information.
Are there a lot of folks that would like to schedule an event to include an AutoCross?
Dang, that would be a blast to invade a local course with a dozen or so Foci.[thumb] [:D]
Actually, how many of you are already active in AutoX?
I mentioned it to my wife a couple days ago, and to my surprise, she was rather positive about this.
Probably, because we just don't get out much. [ohcrap]
COSVT03 04-29-2004, 06:49 PM Im in MN, and would go to either one, I just need to know the days so I can get them off work! Just let me know all the info and I will see what I can manage. Im gonna try to buy the Ford Racing/Borla Center Exit exhaust and would *cough* have to break it in. ROAD TRIP! [:D]
crazy_urn 04-29-2004, 08:14 PM I dont auto-x, but i am up for the get together. SD is cool with me if that is the general concensus. [thumb]
as long as i can get the weekend off, and can afford to take it off, i will be there.
Shady R 04-29-2004, 10:41 PM Weekends works for me. RS-WAGON I'll be watching you and my wheels closely, haha. This is great that this got so many takers so far, I hope my signiture helped out. WD-40 Mt Rushmore it is for me and I can't wait. Didn't mean to put you on the spot with this cordination idea I just wanted to know who was going to do it. Auto-x Iv'e not done, but would like to try it out so I'll vote for doing it and at the end of Aug 27,28,29 would work great for me and sense it's a weekend that would work for others I would hope.If the auto-x is aug 15,29 that would be perfect. So what do you guys think about this?
The end of August is too close to Labor Day for us.
We have a lot of visitors heading our way this year.
Weekend of July 24th and 25th is when our 4X4 club is hosting an event in Boulder, MT.
However, I see there's an AutoX event on the July 25th in Rapid City.
Decisions....decisions. Sheesh.
What's everyone doing over the Memorial Day weekend??
Focus_ryter 04-30-2004, 11:58 AM 29th sounds good to me! I do auto-x in Colorado. I would love to have a bunch of foci go up there and kick some butt!
Okee Dokee.
The Location Poll (http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12997) is up and running.
Shady R 04-30-2004, 06:45 PM WD-40 don't be that way now, Bring every one with you. Share in the glory witch is known as the Focus. Or just say it's bowling night. Do another poll for the Date.
crazy_urn 04-30-2004, 07:11 PM any time in august has about equal chance of working for me.
RS-wagon 05-01-2004, 01:13 AM The end of july is bad for me. as I will be in Flon family vacation with the wagon. memorial weekend is cool.
Tim
The Date Poll (http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&postid=164172#post164172) is up and running.
Labor Day weekend is most certainly not do-able for us.[:(]
WD-40 don't be that way now, Bring every one with you.
Share in the glory witch is known as the Focus. Or just say it's bowling night.
Believe me Shady R you would not want to see this bunch of folks hitting the highway all at once![ohcrap]
BTW, how'd you know we were bowlers??!![screwy]
Shady R 05-03-2004, 11:35 PM WD40 I can see the future and read minds. Or I could be tracking you with a goverment satilite. Or actually I use that excuse to go drive late at night when the streets are empty and cruiseing is at it's best. Crap I just want to go on a road trip and at the end of Augest would be really great but I'm willing to go in july but my boss hast to know so I can pull time off for it. Actually I don't care when we go it just can't be between the 1rst threw the 9th of Augest. So what has been your best game? Mine is like 180 and yes I suck I know but it's just fun, you know.
RS-wagon 05-03-2004, 11:42 PM If we want to Auto x just let me know and I will warn the powers that be at the local club to expect a lot of cars in H stock, G-stock, and ?????.
Tim
Shady R 05-03-2004, 11:53 PM RS-wagon I want to try an Auto-x so count me in for that. What does that cost or what should I need to know before hand? I have never done some thing like that and don't know the rules of the game so any info would be appreciated.
stxen12 05-03-2004, 11:59 PM I trip out there would be awsome, are you guys looking for anyone to come? I would be willing to drive from Ohio.
RS-wagon 05-04-2004, 12:00 AM Not sure of cost but will find out. basicly you just need a safe car and a helmet( they have loaners)
Tim
Shady R 05-04-2004, 12:02 AM stxen Damn that would be a road trip. Yah every body interested can go. but if you say your going, don't bail at the last minute cause that screws up every ones plans. but yah every body is welcome.
Shady R, and anyone else that's interested.
AutoCross Basics (http://www.eurotuner.com/howto/38238/)
AutoCross.com (http://www.autocross.com/)
SCCA (http://www.scca.com/)
Usually, events cost $25 for non-members, and $10-$15 for SCCA members.
The current helmet requirement is Snell 90 or newer.
What region is Rapid City's club in, RS-wagon?
Ah, the bowling. I'm about a 116 average.[ohcrap]
I have thrown a few 180+ games, but those are few and far between.
You should have seen me bowling left handed, after breaking my right hand skiing (http://bbs.off-road.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=fordgeneral&Number=1076389&Forum=fordgeneral&#Post1076389) last spring.[?|]
stxen12:
Holy cow! You'd drive all the way from Ohio?
What a trooper.[:D]
RS-wagon 05-04-2004, 07:49 PM The club is not an official SCCA club. they are looking to. they mentioned the region but I forget. they do how ever follow the SCCA rules. but the club is also flexable about them. That is what makes them a good club to run with.
Tim
L.E.D.zx3 05-05-2004, 12:42 AM i'd like to go on that cruise.... i got to get my alignment, and take a bend out of a wheel, and get a better paying job to pay for all this! hahaha.
[rolleyes] [:(]
but my time will come.....

ou tof curiosity... would an open-faced helmet desined for dirt biking work? or are there specific regs about helmets?
i do not know if i will do auto-x or not, but the g2g wil be great.
stxen12 05-05-2004, 09:15 PM Yea, I would drive from OHIO[8D]. I know it would be a trip, but there are never any g2g's around this area. Also, I have never been to one of these places, so this would give me an excuse to get away from the gf and go.......LOL. I am booked until the end of July, so if it is going to be in August.........then I would PROBABLY be able to go.

you know, some people might look at this as an excuse to get away with the gf. lol

Open face motorcycle is OK.
The current regulation only states that it must have a Snell 90 or newer rating.
There will be a label on the inside, and possibly a sticker on the outside stating as such.
If you only have a DOT rating, it won’t work. Been there, tried that.
Here's (http://www.smf.org/stds.html) some information on ratings.
RS-wagon 05-06-2004, 07:49 PM The Rapid club used to allow any helmet. Don't know about it know.
Any idea of a date yet????
Tim
crazy_urn 05-06-2004, 08:55 PM thanks for the helmet info
i will have to check out my helmet someitme, to see if it will work. i dont know if i will race or not, but it might be fun. on the other hand, i like my tires with tread. lol
Shady R 05-06-2004, 09:52 PM So speaking of tread how hard is auto-x on a car?
crazy_urn 05-06-2004, 11:13 PM yeah, i guess i should have asked that before i assumed it would be hard on it...
thanks for lookin out shady. [thumb]
Any idea of a date yet????
Date's still undecided. I shouldn't have put so many choices up?
As I mentioned, we are definitely going to be at the Cheyenne rodeo on July 31st.
If we did the Rapid City AutoX on Sunday, the 25th, we could all get together on Saturday the 24th.
Is there that much to do in the Badlands/Rushmore/Deadwood area for close to a week?
My wife was suggesting taking that whole week off for the G2G, AutoX, SD exploring,
and maybe even go down to Denver and visit the new 6-Flags Park.
We're "Coaster Fanatics"![:D]
On the way back, go to the rodeo, and then home on Sunday Aug1st.
I just want to make sure we won't be bored that whole time.
Don't mind a hike or two, and we love visiting historic sites.
Gees this got long, but now you know our whole planning process.[?|]
So speaking of tread how hard is auto-x on a car?
Well, I've only been to the 1 event so far, with 4 induvidual runs.
I'll be doing another one on May 16th, here in town.
Don't see any appreciable wear after the 1st AutoX.
Tire pressure is the big one.
I was running 45-47psi in the front tires to keep them from rolling over on the shoulder.
That's where you're going to see the wear.
Not much to worry about on the rear tires.
RS-wagon 05-07-2004, 10:54 PM The end of July wouldn't work for me. I will be coming back from FL. then.
Tim
Shady R 05-09-2004, 12:58 AM Why don't we just all post when we can't go and then pull a date out of that? We don't haft to Auto-x if it don't fit in the time-date. I did find out that Mt-Rushmore has a lower parking lot that don't require you to pay to get in and we can get a shot of are cars with Mt-Rushmore in the back ground. There are a lot of sites there that I want to see and Time is ticking for me, my boss wont give me the aloted time to do this if I don't find out 4weeks a head of time. So any one just pick a date for us to go and we can debate it more then. I haft to compete against 217 other people for time off and only 3 of us can take it at one time.
RS-wagon 05-09-2004, 11:58 AM Shady sounds like an idea. Dates I can't make:
June 12-13 Rocky MTn NHRA sport compact nationals in Denver.
Last week in July: Florada vacation.
Just about any other date would work with enought notice.
Tim
Shady R 05-09-2004, 03:25 PM First week of Augest 1rst through the 9th I can't go.
So we have the 1rst through the 21rst of july open and the 10th through the 21rst of Augest open. great, now where getting some where.
crazy_urn 05-09-2004, 04:58 PM Anytime in august would work best for me. i could do july if that is what we decide, but august would be a lot easier on the schedual, and the pocket book.
(i know that doesnt help much, but hey, its the truth, lol)
awebb 05-09-2004, 10:03 PM I just got in on this action [;)], but I would be really stoked to go to a GTG. Pretty much any time this summer before August 25th will work for me with enough notice. I was planning on taking a road trip this summer anyways, what better destination that a bunch of other focus fanatics?
