On FJ we cal it the SWAB, devised by yours truly. Remove your split port actuator and prop the butterflies open. Make sure you leave the actuator plugged in so you don't get a CEL. You'll lose the 3k lurch, but you'll gain a nice bit if low end torque.

No pics. Remember I live in the photo stome age, right? Heck, I JUST got an all in one fax/printer/copier/scanner. Whew, let me catch my breath from the speed!!!

Really, it's easy. Take off your intake tube, remove the actuators three bolts, prop open the butterflies (rotate the linkage towards the radiator) with a spring or wire, then reinstall the actuator but use three or so washers to keep the actuator from making contact with the linkage. Reinstall the intake tube.

Done.

Is this mod really worth the loss of that 3k jump?

Some love it, some hate it. The beauty of this mod is that if you don't like it you're not out anything and can redo it in a matter of minutes. Most people will gain speed in the 1/4 mile and lose about 2/10 of a second. Not bad for a free mod. It'll feel funny because the secondaries won't open at 3k, so you'll miss the kick in the pants you get when they open. The bonus is that the butterflies are always open and the torque is there at 1k as opposed to 3k.

There are some SPI owners that have taken it even further and added a control to the actuator to open and close the butterflies as they feel.

Hey waterboy - I have done this mod - and yes there is a very noticeable increase in responce and power - It helps more though if you have a improved air intake and a quality cat back.

I do like this mod and yes it was increadably simple to do.

Thanks for the feedback. Maybe I should've patented it and charged a shitpot full of money, huh? I appreciate the feedback, it helps others to see how easy it is and that it works.
