: Mod assisntance required
bad_haze 04-22-2007, 01:39 PM Hey everyone. I am getting my new zx4 gfx sedan this wednesday and I am looking to imporve the performance of the engine. I would prefer to get both torque AND hp but if I had to choose, it would definitely be more torque.
Anyways, after reading and reading and reading, it seems like i'll have to "open the enigne up" by allowing more air to flow in and then more air to flow out. So I came up with a list of mods I need to buy over this year so I can achieve my goal of getting more power out of this 2.0L duratec:
1) FS ZX4/Sedan Exhaust - 8v SPI/16v Zetec/2.0L & 2.3L Duratec (400CDN)
2) FS Ford Focus 2.3L/2.0L Duratec - Cosworth 4-1 Race Header (450CDN)
3) FS Ford Focus 2.3L/2.0L Duratec Automatic Trans - Cosworth Flex Pipe (150CDN)
4) Steeda Cold Air Intake Kit for 2.0 & 2.3 Duratec (300CDN)
5) FS XCalibrator 2 - Ford Focus - Auto Trans Duratec 2.0L (400CDN)
6) 195/65ZR15 Yokohama AVS ES100 Blackwall Tires (400CDN)
So what do you think about this setup? I think it should run me about 2500$ (installation costs and shipping cost included). Is it worth it? How much more HP do you think I'll get? What about torque? MPG? Servicing requirements? etc... anything I need to know please let me know. Thx.
Turbo Turtle 04-22-2007, 02:38 PM i think i will know what tom is going to say...save up a lil more and turbo it.[;)] you wont regret that if you wont power and torque...
bad_haze 04-22-2007, 03:07 PM Yeah I was looking at the Turbo options, but they are too expensive and I really don't need that much power. Besides I don't want to have my engine doing that much more work because then I'll have to get it serviced so much more.
I also want to try and install these mods myself so I can learn more about cars and how they work.
heelflip101 04-22-2007, 03:13 PM If you have 2500 to spend, go turbo or you will wish you had.
Turbo Turtle 04-22-2007, 04:42 PM yep if you have 2500 or you wish you had. the turbo isnt any harder to install then a header. and you only have to service it more if you race it a lot. get some good oil and you will be fine. you can find a used kit and that will help as far as the cost, that is what i did. and you can tune it for the power that suits you, but as long as you get a good tune and take car of it your engine will be fine.
heelflip101 04-22-2007, 08:47 PM heck look above supercharger ^^^ 1650, more power than you would get with all those bolt on's for 850 less.
heelflip101 04-22-2007, 08:49 PM Wait what does 1650 work out in canadian?
Foci_Fosho 04-22-2007, 08:51 PM heck look above supercharger ^^^ 1650, more power than you would get with all those bolt on's for 850 less.
This person has a duratec, and you will not find a supercharger for it.
You probably won't find a turbokit for $2500 either, Tack on another $800 and you are just about there.
Turbo Turtle 04-22-2007, 09:02 PM 1650 = 1855
and its 1600 with out the intake.
1600 = 1790
plus shipping of course
i got my turbo for 2300 plus 600 for tuning. just be patient and keep looking:)
bad_haze 04-23-2007, 06:40 AM Well, okay I guess I'll wait for a supercharger to come out for the duratec 20 because they seem to be cheaper in general. In the meantime I'll get my yokohama tires and new suspension to lower the car by 1".
You think 1" will make a nice difference in appearance without being too low to the ground so i can't go over speedbumps and stuff?
Any suggestions on the type of spring I should get?
heelflip101 04-23-2007, 10:36 AM Sorry guess I'm stuck in zetec land, anyway its unlikely that IF they come out with a supercharger for the duatec, it will be cheap. Go turbo, if you supercharge it you may regret it later.
Turbo Turtle 04-23-2007, 03:14 PM yep i supercharged it b/c it was cheaper and soon realized that i had made a mistake. and after i got my turbo it was amazing the differance in the two. turbo is soooo much better. worth the differance with out a doubt.
bad_haze 04-23-2007, 04:17 PM Okay. I scrapped buying the Yoko es100s because of the bad reviews it got. Noise and treadwear seemed to be the major issues, so I'll stick with stock and get UHP tires when I install the turbo when it becomes available.
Maybe I'll just get a nice CAI to keep my thirst for performance quenched.
paulhaskew 04-24-2007, 06:14 PM I noticed in your last post you said when the turbo becomes available. Have you checked out >> http://www.focussport.com/turbocharger.htm
The kit is available now... I ran the stage I kit when it first came out and upgraded to stage II after they shipped it to my door... I can say without a doubt the quality of the kit is awesome.... Now is the best time to decide if you are going fully NA or FI... Personally I preferred the FI option as you can generate more power down...
Impaled 04-24-2007, 08:03 PM You guys tell him to ditch all those mods and get a turbo instead...but wouldn't he really want to have half of the things he listed there before going turbo?// Plus hes got an ATX will it be able to handle it?
bad_haze 04-25-2007, 10:06 AM Yeah, thats what i'm thinking. Won't I need race headers, new exhaust, lowered suspension and better tires before I geta turbo?
Oh, and BTW, where the hell do I go to get Shock/Strut/Spring kits for the 07 around here?
paulhaskew 04-25-2007, 10:35 PM no... Exhaust will help make more power but can be done later, suspension can be gotten at a later time as well and products for 06+ are available from HR, Eibach and Ford (I believe), and as for tires/rims thats a personal choice... You can get nice tires in just about any size...

Buying a CAI and a header before a turbo would be wasting your money. The FS kit comes with its own intake tubing and turbo exhaust manifold. The only other "engine" mod you'll need is exhaust. And like Paul said, you can run stock exhaust. The ATX might be your only concern. Look into that.
*edit*
Double checked your mods list - the turbo kit has its own flex/down pipe, and it comes with an xcal2+tuning. The only things on your list that aren't included in the kit are exhaust and tires. If you go with stage one only, you won't make rediculous amounts of power (but I'll bet you'll want it later!!) and you can use your stock clutch for longer.
Trust me, I had a whole list of mods ready for NA - had them all in a pile in my basement ready to go on, but I'd really wanted a turbo all along. I just bought the kit, so hopefully I can sell the other parts I no longer need. Even if I break even on everything, I'm out a minimum of $230 from the xcal2 alone, seeing as I bought it before I bought the turbo, and can't get all my money back.
Take it from everyone who already has --- go FI! [:D]
*double edit*
Yikes, just noticed this is in the Focus-Power forum! So by any reference I made to "FS", I of course mean any generic turbo kit built by Tom the Turbo-nator [:D]
Why did you post up that mod list in a FI forum anyhow..? No wonder everyone's touting turbos!
Turbo Turtle 05-01-2007, 11:59 AM yeah you cant use a cold air intake or headers with the turbo. it would be waist of money. if you do plan on going turbo later and want an exhaust now, get a 3". and as far as suspension goes, mine is stock, lol.
