That doesn't make any sense at all. I can promise you that if those were available in the US, they certainly wouldn't be the same price as a Civic Si. Think more along the lines of the upcoming Pontiac G8 GTP in terms of price (Holden Commodore and Ford Falcon are direct competitors in Australia). Probably higher for the FPV versions. Any kid who can afford a $30k+ performance car will already have an STI or Evo.

But yeah, they're awesome. GM is finally bringing over their great foreign market cars (Opel/Vauxhalls as Saturns and Holdens as Pontiacs), and I would expect Ford to follow suit with the next Falcon.

Blame the US consumer. There just isn't much of a demand for RWD performance cars these days.

GM dumped the camaro and firebird for a reason- it costs too much to develop a RWD platform for such a limited market. Ford almost dumped the Mustang in the late eighties (the probe was going to replace it).

Everyone complains about the Mustang having a live rear axle, but if it didn't they would have to charge over 30k for one.

Face facts. Throw a bunch of chrome and cupholders on something that resembles a truck of some sort and you can charge 40 or 50 grand for it- people will line up to buy it. That's what people want these days.

For being such a small segment of the market, we have plenty of sporty cars available to us. But who buys sports cars? Single guys, old guys, and people wealthy enough to have a 3rd vehicle. I like to look at sports cars, but I probably won't own one for at least 10 more years. They just aren't practical.

Sports cars are toys, and if you want a toy you will probably have more fun on a motorcycle, boat, snowmobile, personal watercraft, or 4-wheeler. Unless of course you have access to a racetrack or live in Montana (no speed limits in some areas). The rest of us still have traffic laws to obey.

The US market is dominated by sedans, SUVs, pickups, and minivans. Those are the cars that make money in NA. How can you blame any company for focusing on those vehicles?

Ummmm, I wouldn't call GM's efforts from Opel/Vauxhall as being terribly great. The Chevrolet Malibu/Malibu Maxx (2004+) is essentially a Vectra/Signum with a new nose, tail lamps, and cheapo interior. Needless to say, with the experiences my wife and I have had with her 2004 Malibu - I'm not thinking that GM's european arm is doing any better of a job than it's North American arm. (the Vectra/Signum, Saab 9-3, Malibu/Malibu Maxx, Pontiac G6, and Saturn Aura all ride the GM Epsilon platfom - platform code Z)

As for Holden, well the GTO was pretty freakin sweet. At least one arm of GM seems to be capable making some decent cars.
