: What do you think of the new GFX SE Focus ?
04-02-2007, 11:29 PM
I'm new here! I was looking for a Ford Focus Forum for a really long time, and this place looked just right. Registered a few minutes ago, and i've been looking at the member ride pictures page. Anywho, i am on the market to buy a Ford Focus some time this summer. I've been craving one since it came out. To make it worst, i had to get my old Sable's brake line fixed when it died on me two weeks prior and i was given a focus to drive home. Problem is, it's like that damn commercial. Once you test drive it, you can't get it out of your head :S.
My father has been working at Ford for over 20 some odd years. He's now a Customer Service Rep and he's gonna be looking into this with me. He has no personal interest in the car seeing as he's a proud owner of a Yellow 2005 Mustang, however i wanted to make it worth his while to help me out. Imma be paying for most of the car, under the premise that he have it on his name until i get 21 or move out (insurance purposes) and that i get to do what i want with it. He can drive it when he needs to and i can borrow my lady's car. Anywho, he proposed the GFX. He's never crazy or enthusiastic about buying a car, but he mention this and it occured to me that it wasn't too pricy for a car that looked THAT good. So at first i was looking at the Focus S GFX model, but i was turned off by the fact that it was equiped with practically nothing. I was happy they at least put an engine in that, or else i'd have to go flintstone style on that one. Then the SE came with a bit more things or at least their optional. All i wanted was the Winter package and the electrical comfort package. I'm planning on getting it red. I will have the SVT spoiler added later, as well as some black 17 or 18 inch rims.
Edit: It's the ZX3 one btw
Anyways, i was interested in knowing if any members out here own this car or have driven one or have any comments as well as recommendations. I am trying hard to Find GFX info over the net, but i guess it's relatively new. Imma have a chat about it again tonight, and see if i can come down to the dealership to give one a spin because i really can't sleep anymore :O

Haven't heard of that trim package. Maybe it's only offered in Canada???

Maybe he's talking about the SAP (Street Appearance Package) body kit that ford offers on the 05+ foci. If so, definately get it. It makes the 05+ foci look really nice.

The GFX package is what the SAP is called in Canada.
I recommend getting the SES trim level and just order it from a dealer, set up exactly the way you want, instead of trying to locate one over the internet. I ordered mine from the dealer and I'm very happy with it!

is this your first car? i'd suggest buying something used? if you can find them in canada, try looking for a svt with winter package. that way you can get some butt warmers too.

Actually, this would be my second car. Problem is, the SVT's are hard to find around here, when you do find them, they have a lot of mileage and worth anywhere between 12 000 - 18 000 CAD which is very close a price to getting a new one. I could just get SAP kit on my 07, and then get the supercharger installed later, which would boost it up to between 240-260 HP. According to the dealer. So they sell the ZX3 with an SES trim ? I was looking on Ford Canada, and only the SE and S were slotted there. I don't need all the stuff it comes with , thats for sure. I am also trying to save a few thousand, so i can get cracking on pulling out the stock audio in there. I at least wanted the seat warmers, automatic windows, a/c, and SAP kit.
Thanks guys. Does anyone here have any pictures of their rides :). I find the kit really sick.

They should sell it with the SES trim...They do in America, I don't see why it would be any different in Canada? [dunno]
Were you looking at like Ford direct or a dealer website? If it was a dealer website, you probably didn't see any SES packages because they had none on the lot.
And that gfx/sap kit looks awsome on the focus, but IMO it looks way better on a zx4 with the rally style wing. [:)~]
And I don't know why the guy at the dealership woulda said anything about a supercharger because to my knowledge, no one makes a supercharger kit for the duratec engines. The Focus Sport turbo is about the only forced induction system available for the duratec...for now.

Street Apperence Package=GFX(Ground Effects Package i think tho i dont see any ground effects)

the package definately adds to the car, and sets it off from everyone else, i've only seen a handful of them. and dont really see a point in getting the svt wing if you get the gfx kit, cause that adds a wing to it that i believe is a bit bigger than the svt, unless u just really like that one. good choice on the red though. i've got an 05, haven't had any problems with it other than a foglight that just went out and cost a buttload to replace. oh, and a real minor oil leak, but that was something about the oil filter being loose and got it replaced free and no problem afterwards. so that was no biggie at all. other than that, it's been an awesome car, 25k miles, mpg isn't great but not bad. love it. good choice.

For some reason Ford Canada markets the 'Appearance Package' as GFX - but it's the same thing. The Ford.ca website only lists the 3door hatch as S or SE, the 5 door hatch only as SES, the sedan as S, SE, SES, ST, and the wagon as SE or SES. The GFX option applies to the SE 3 door hatch, SE sedan or the SES 5 door hatch. There are often differences between the Canadian and American options for the same car (Either as standard equip or options). My 2007 SES ZX5 came with rear head rests (part of the comfort group option) (does the US Focus have the rear head rest option?)
I have the GFX package on my 2007 ZX5 SES - front and rear bumpers, exhaust tip and the spoiler. The spoiler is similar to the size of the RS spoiler but it overhangs the rear lights to the side a bit. The front bumper doesn't follow the bottom of the headlights evenly as I think it should (thought it was just mine - but checked out a few others and that's how they're made). Overall I like the look better than the stock bumpers.
I used to drive a 95 Escort GT (hatch) and if the 4 door Focus sedan ST was a hatch I would have bought that. I like the versatility of the having a hatch.

Salut et Bienvenu,
Definately get all the options now that you want, you'll regret it later if you don't. to that end, you should custom order your focus. that way you'll get everything u want and the GFX package. as long as you dont mind waiting.

Well i've been waiting since about 2004, when they redesigned some parts, the head lights, and added the Euro Grill. So it's safe to say that i wouldn't mind. Then again, if i find one on site that has what i need and comes in red, then i'm throwin out the offer. Il be saving a bit of money with my father buying it under his name. And service as well as repairs are easy with him. When my sable goes down under, he takes it to work and i get the Stang so yeah ;). He's been hogging my car lately mind you because of my audio system. He likes the balance you get with some quality bass in the trunk. Anywho, il make sure he keeps his hands on the mustang when the Focus hits my driveway.
As for the SVT spoiler, i find it just has good balance, and i am more fond of the shape. However, i won't be making major changes for the first few months because the price it's gonna cost me to have it will be good enough. I just wanna buy my Audio some time in advance, so i can get that done. I was wondering if they sell trim pieces around windshield inside so i can put some tweeters on both sides.
Thanks for the info guys, i really love this place and i am getting more and more excited.
P.S. My first choice would be the ZX4, but the ZX3 is more practical for me, as the hatch will allow me to place my music equipment more easily. I have a really big amp, and i am even having trouble placing it through the back doors of my moms big old 97 Sable. It's huge. Anywho, i check the specs and eyed it, and it should work just fine. If not, il still have a sweet ass car ;).

For our American friends,
Ford of Canada does not offer the ZX3 in the SES trim level, don't know why but they don't...just like we don't get the 2.3L in the hatches, only on the ZX4. Hell, from certain manufacturers we don't get entire cars! Mercury is no longer sold here, we can't get the Toyota MR2, Honda S2000, Pontiac GTO...the list goes on....

for those of you who haven't seen it, here's the commercial we get to see:

I ordered my 2007 ZX3 set up exactly the way I wanted it from the dealer and it took 5 weeks to arrive at the dealership from the factory.
You could look for a lot longer and settle for something not quite the way you want it; just order it from the factory. You'll be happier! The ZX5 looks great with the SAP/GFX too!
Here's a thread with the SAP:
