Mostly the Hatch.

Oddly tho im starting to really like the STs. Its weird, but with the SAP they look real nice.

But to the topic at hand. Any serious issues with the 07s i should know about? The car HAS to last a while as its going to get driven 200ish miles every day.

You should be great with an '07. 05's have some issues (wish I had gotten an 06 instead) but nothing major, just some glitches. I have not heard of these issues with the 06-07 though.

Thats real good to hear.

Think im going to go for the 07 Hatch SES with SAP. For 14k thats hard to pass up.

Only option it dont have i beleive is the upgraded stereo, but really id just rip out the door and dash speakers anyways. :)

Is it just me, or are these forums strangle crawling atm? Thought it was me so i reset my network, but alas its not. Weirdness.

I just passes 1000 miles on my 07,nothing wrong so far..It's a 3 door hatch 5 speed.I bought it for reliablilty,it's definatly the slowest car i've owned by far though..but it's not meant to be a street/race car anyways..

highly recommend the st with sap, its an amazing car and fast too..i've had my 2.3L for 38k so far and have had no motor issues yet! plus the upgraded stereo sounds soooo good...better than a lot of aftermarket jobs, i'd leave it in there for a while!

Only catch. the 1 ST thats loaded with all the goodies, is red.. I hate red. If it was black id do it in a heartbeat i think. Tho i can always talk to the ford peoples.

As for the stereo. Its kinda a semi hobby. Know my stuff there, and as "nice" as the upgraded one is, for "stock", its nowhere near as nice as even some 40$ SPL Deck and doors. Mind you, it would for sure hold me off until i do the carputer. :)

Oh no doubt itll be "slow" all around, but "quick" is a realitive term. Its got "Spunk", but by no means a speed demon. :)

No worries bro....
I had vettes for the past 17 years, almost my whole driving life, then i went to a 05 stang GT,car was ok,but lacked power, and now a focus, yes, getting divorced..bye bye toys for a while....I can never "dog" GM though, the vettes i had were so reliable, the c5 was the best car i ever owned, and raced the hell out of it,and still got 20 grand on a trade in after 5 years..I get dogged any time i bring this up or post pics of my c5 that was 1 inch off the ground..i don't care though...jealousy is a huge compliment lol...
I'll be back in a vette next year, but this 07 is such a good little car so far,i'll keep as my driver for years to come.
I just bought mine a month and a week ago, since it was brand new,i got a $2500 rebate on it.Ask about that also. The one problem i did have, the 05 gt was depreciating so fast,i had a 6k negitive down (upside down they call it),so that 6 k was added on to the focus...which is pitch black

Yep. Local place is offering to "get" me a pitch black hatchback for 14k out the door. SES with SAP, and everything but the upgraded stereo.

BUT, on the flipside, they want to give me a ST thats FULLY loaded for 14k, but red. :-\

Gonna mention that when i go in to spin around in the ST, because i have a feeling they can do better on the SES.

love that 2500 rebate :)

Django, have the dealership look around for pitch black SAP STs in the area. If you can wait a little longer for the car, they can find you what you really want. That is, if you really want the sedan. I love mine. Also, PM me for a Friends&Neighbor plan discount. I have several PINs to use and no friends or neighbors are in the market. It will save you a few hundred extra.

Glad to hear you're digging the Focus over the Cobalt SS!

Just a suggestion.....

Compare the 2.0 SES with the 2.3 ST back-to-back if you can. Make sure that the 2.0 has satisfactory power for you.

For me, it did not. Found a 2003 2.3 P-Zev wagon. I would not have purchased a Focus with a 2.0.

funny you say this,i did just that, when i was done,i thought the black 3 door was the 2.3,because it was quiker, maybe the 5 speed with the new 3:73 gears,3:42 was the gear before,i'm not sure. But the 2.0L felt the quikest of the 3 i drove.
Maybe it's me,i'm just stepping out of 300 and 400 hp cars,so maybe a 15 or so horsepower difference is not even noticable to me.

I hear what your saying, like porshe's feel faster than they are, except a couple models they have are potent, however, since i was really concerned about this car having little power compaired to my other rides, when i test drove the 3 cars,i went to this long up hill on ramp, and the 3 door 2.0L 5 speed pulled up the hill better than the other 2 cars, was alos the only car i could get into 4th on the hill. The auto car, could'nt make up it's mind between 2nd and 3rd all the way up the hill, that test drive was over after that hill. The other 2 cars i drove around a little longer.
I'm only going to end up doing header and full exhaust, cosworth intake, and maybe a couple cams, tune, this is just going to be a daily driver, next year i'm adding another vette, they make great all around race cars with minimal mods, can't do it now until the divorce is final.
What did you get?

My folks went shopping "for me" in another state (where they live) and the dealership gave them a KILLER deal. like 11k or something for the same exact car.

Im gonna mention it. If they dont get "close" ill fly out and drive back in a new car for cheaper. ill pay 500 bucks in gas and plane ticket to save 3 grand.

if you are going use why not look for a low-mile 04 SVT? if not i would go for a used 2.3 hatch. as much as i like the ST, i would want the hatch and the pre-05 styling. i just love the SVT/Mach HIDs

to each his own. i like the new ones too. just like the older ones better. pretty much only because of the SVT/Mach headights. if there were OEM quality projector HIDs available for the 05 and up i wouldn't mind having either one. i do like the older ediger interior though. the newer one looks kinda plain to me. i like the double din radio opening though so i guess they both have their pluses and minuses for me. either way good luck man! you should be happy either way!

It's weird - the 07 2.0 five speed felt dramatically quicker than the 02 2.0 zetec five speed I had before it. There's less hesitation, lag, or anything. On the 07 2.0 with with the automatic - it's painful to drive. The five speed made a world of difference. My wife let me get the five speed when I explained that I felt safer driving the five speed than the automatic.

As for styling, I prefer the look of the old models, though every day the new dash and front styling grows on me. The fact that it's the same car from the A-pillar back isn't a bad thing either. (the only foci worth buying to me are hatches) I loved the way my 02 looked (the dash and front clip), but the 07 feels slightly more "grown up", while the 02 helped me deny the fact that I was, in fact, an adult.

As for buying a focus used - I would recommend against that. People typically only get rid of their focus if it's a problem car or they outgrow it. 90% of the time though, it's a problem car. After what I went through with the certified pre owned 02 focus I had, I'll never buy a domestic car used ever again. It's just not worth the risk of being in a money pit (what my 02 turned out to be). At least with a new focus - if things go bad, you have legal recourse with the lemon law - you generally won't have that with a used car.

I love the 00-07 focus hatchbacks - probably the best blend of sport, utility, economy, and value that you'll find out there. Be it a bare bones zx3, a loaded up SES, or an SVT - it's got room to haul stuff, will make you smile, and it's something you can't get just anywhere. The sedans (ST included) aren't that special as you can get a nice small sedan from anywhere - Honda, Toyota, Mazda, etc. for within $2-3k.

If ford doesn't bring the focus hatch back by 2013, I'll hold out for a Volvo C30 - probably the closest we'll come to a Mk II focus hatch on this side of the Atlantic. As much as I love my focus, I don't intend on keeping it long after it's paid off.

Thats what i'm talking about,i'm still new to 4 cylinders, but it must be the new 3:73 gears, and the tune, which also gets the 37 mpg highway if one is into that sort of thing.
I wish our track did'nt close, even though my last cars were low 13's and quiker, this feels like a mid-high 15 second car.Today was the first day i ran it to the redline thru all the gears.I now have 1065 miles on it.It did'nt just chirp second gear,it spun the tires a little shifting to second.Mean torque steer though.
