: So you think your car computer isn't connected to EVERYTHING???

OK, maybe I'm slow, or maybe it's in the owners manual and I never saw it...
But I went to drop off recyclables this afternoon and hit the hatch release before the car had stopped moving. Nothing happened and I figured I didn't hit it hard enough, but by then I had stopped - so it worked. Then I tested it as I left, apparently the hatch won't release at more than 5 mph, makes sense... but the only way the switch would operate that way would be to tie it to the computer... they're taking over the world!!! [80?] [shhh]

It never occurred to me to hit the release while I was really moving, why am I surprised that we need computers to protect people from doing something stupid? [nono] [rofl]

That's not as bad as my Beretta was, you actually had to have it in park to open the trunk, and this was a '94 Beretta...I haven't ever tried opening the trunk of the Focus while moving though...

and now cars that park themselves...yeah, funny how we cater to those of lesser intellect. Personally, i think they should just be shot.

^ lol you started talking about your Berretta and i started thinkin "wow, computers in handguns!" then i realized you were talkin about a car hahaha

but yeah, computers are connected to everything and to each other. one day we'l be able to get ahold of anyone in the world simply by pressing a sequence of numbers on a keypad!

wait a minute...

I seem to recall the gun maker suing GM over the Beretta. It was originally going to be the Baretta, then the gun folks saw it and said "we do not want our name to be connected to this car". I have much greater respect for them because of it.

my favorite is the passenger side sensor for the airbags. my computer knows just when to turn on the airbag light to buckle in my 12 pack of beer.

its there so you dont accidentally hit it while cruising down the road-- my gli is worse with computer control then my svt -- it monitors everything

i did a mod that controls that...put a switch in one of the wires going to the computer...now the doors dont lock themselves when i get above 5 mph and i can open the trunk at 90 mph, haha

edit: the key fob reciever is also on this same circuit...the mod lets u use ur keyfob when the car is on, travelling down the road...whatever...

Yeah - I've got an electric liftgate release button on the dash for my wagon. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. I think it has something to do with a combination of key-in-ignition, but-not-on ; key not in ignition; sitting in car / hands full of stuff, and then multiplied by an algorithm of how pi**ed off you are.........

haha, sounds about right...my sisters focus trunk release got too worn out and u had to press it 7 times to open the trunk...she got it replaced and it works first time now...apparently they just get worn out after a while, haha

the comment before that one: i didnt realise it did all that other stuff, i just did the mod so i didnt have to unlock the doors everytime i went to pick someone up, haha

try driving around some parts of stockton, oakland or l.a. with your doors unlocked...hell even Cleveland ^. i prefer to keep my doors locked when moving but yea it is annoying that they lock automatically. i'm so used to locking my cars' doors that when i drive my mom's car it throws me off lol

hey i used to live in cleveland its not as bad as detroit or toledo-- i lived in clev 5 years in a not so nice neighborhood and never had any problems-- it was fun living in the hood though-- it was better than jerry springer-- all my neighbors would go out on their front porches and watch the fights and brawls and violence and crimes -- it was great== i miss cleve[bigcry]

Keep that computer in mind if you street race, say your in a mean wreck while street racing (ya,it will never happen to me,ya right),...
When in court, the judge can tell the insurance company to send the computer (black-box) in for readings, they'll pull out the last 15 seconds recorded on the PCM.Has,throttle position, speed, were the brakes applied, seat belt on?And a ton of other peramitters.Heck,GM corvette has an OBD-3 (ford still OBD-2),it's not legal YET,but if the goverment had there way (they will someday),an OBD-3 cars plate could be called in to the local authorities, checked on by GPS,then if a danger (like high speed chase),a push of a button would kill power to the motor, something similar but way to complicated for a thread.

I'm not a big fan either.
My issue is,what if you at the track in a 12 second car, your just about to go thru the traps at about 115 mph,the GPS tells the local cops that your in over 100 mph,but does'nt say the speeder is at a track event, and they shut you down,at that speed,it would really be dangerous..
