omg that's [:)][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)] UGLY

I seem to recall seeing this concept two years ago. Looks like something that'll take some time to get used to. As for it being ugly ... don't worry - we'll likely never see any of the small car products from Mercedes here in the U.S.. Heaven forbid someone wants a Mercedes that costs less than $30k new.
Chances are that, like the BMW 318ti and Mercedes Benz C230K coupe, it would fail in the United States marketplace because it'd be too expesnive for what it is.

It will be here in the fall.
A Mercedes for less than $15K.
They call it the SMART.
2 passenger, 70HP, 1600 LBS car with a top speed of 65 MPH and gets 64 MPG.
Here it is.

Ahaha, I remember that thing... fugly.
The Smart doesn't look too bad really, but you probably wouldn't catch me in one. They copied my tail lights.

looks like itwould be fun to drive

I don't think the 'Fish' car is the same as the Smart car. For one I'm pretty sure the Smart car is gas powered, and the fish is tubo-diesel...
and outwardly anyway the styling isn't all that similiar.
and a quote from the article:
Although the Bionic isn't coming to your local dealership, Mercedes does expect it to significantly influence the design language of its next generation of small cars.

That fish car is hideous, omg! But the Smarts are cool, I like them
We have had smarts here in CO Springs for about half a year now. They are selling for about 20k and they are pretty nice inside. If I had the money and wanted a commuter car, or lived in a big city, I would be all over it. They are short enough that you can pull into streetside parking head first and not be hanging out further than parallel parked, regular sized cars.
oh. and obviously a smart car can me modded. I still love this clip:

Sorry for the confusion. I didn't mean to say that the SMART is the same as the fish car.
My point was that MB has a history of bringing innovative (albeit an acquired taste) and interesting looking vehicles to production.
So, I wouldn't be surprised if the "fish" made it to production in some form.
The SMART's are fun to drive. Much like a go kart experience, but without the sensation of speed. They are not quick by any stretch of the imagination and everything is VERY close to you.
A chipmunk would amount to a bird strike on an F-15 with this thing.
They handle well though...

Is it odd that I burst into uncontrollable laughter after clicking on that link?

Were I that Ferrari owner, I think I would have eaten a bullet or driven it into the nearest tree...

Wow, it does actually kind of look like a boxfish in profile... but that's not a good look for a car. If you looked up the definition of fugly in the dictionary, there would be a picture of that car. [vommit]

I'm pretty sure that Smart Diablo clip was posted here before. If it's the same one that Smart car was equipped with some kind of scary fast Yamaha motorcycle engine. And a scary fast engine in a car that weighs almost nothing, well [burnout] [rofl]

the fish car looks kinda like the honda insite IMO
03-19-2007, 05:25 PM
Does it float??

If you looked up the definition of fugly in the dictionary, there would be a picture of that car. [vommit]
Couldn't that also be said of the incredibly original Scion xB. Only Toyota's marketing people could make it hip to buy a station wagon that's boxier than anything Volvo made in the 1980's and early 90's.

We've had SMART cars in Canada for a while, and although they are fuel efficient they are not that cheap to buy. In terms of cost over the lifetime of the vehicle (including fuel and purchase price) i think you'd be better off buying a toyota Yaris.
ALso, i remember seeing a clip on TV about that boxfish car about a year ago. lemme see if i can dig it up.

That smart car had a Hyabusa 1300-R motor in it, not sure wether its turbo or not.
