www.focus-power.com is Turbo Tom's site.

you can get full 3" exhaust, cam gears, and 65mm tb to add some extra hp to toms kit!

If your going for 400hp youd probably wanna step it up to a 70mm tb. In order to reach that number youll need a very well built engine, P&P'd head, new valvetrain components, intake manifold, and at least 100 octane. And there are a few other things that will be a neccessity as well.

with 93 octane and the regular bolt ons ie (udp, cams,tb,cai) and no internal work what do u think you could expect from his kit????

why 400 hp.....really curious.....I could you put that much down on the wheels and actually see the car launch...........

Like it was said before, the question is not : Can I reach 400 hp?....but :
Can I drive a 400 hp powered Focus?..........

Have fun.......

Tom's kit is the best. That I agree with.

But needing nothing done to the motor to hit 400 HP?!?!? 400 HP!?!?![rolleyes] You could probably do it for a month or so, with absolutely perfect tuning, conditions and nothing but race gas. But for any kind of longevity he's going to need rods and main caps at least. And while its open, you might as well stick pistons, ARP studs, balance everything and all that good stuff in there.

Even pretty beefy factory turbo motors built for ~200 HP really need things to double their power reliably. Much less an NA 130 HP Focus motor.

seems quite futile to me...400hp? WTF for?

For the same reason people go out and but a ZO6 or a Cobra then mod them to 400+HP why not do the same thing to a Focus

My big payoff with my 400+HP Focus is the look on the faces of the Cobras and the ZO6ERS the Vipers and many many others when my little Focus passes them in places that they think no other car should pass them let alone a Focus

I agree with you Tom...you are a professional and you have years of experience in driving.........the guy might be in his 20's and wants to own a rocket propelled piece of metal................

I have no doubt you can drive yours Tom.....I doubt Zetec_Racer could??

Then again....he's probably a famous Nascar racer and I'll have to shut the F up.....:)

Peace......................

You need an engine swap Tom's kit won't do that without like 20 something psi

Well,

Whatever his preference is, its not my car. I am quite aware that tom has done it; but there is no one that can tell me decisivley that a 400whp daily-driven focus will not have some serious reliability issues. I am not doubting the reliability of toms' kits(referrals speak for themselves), simply the car. Regardless of what some might say, it is simply not designed for that amount of power. Maybe you guys know some secret that I don't know, but i think that most of the people on these forums that are gunning for that amount of power probably would do just as well with a more reasonable 220-260 whp.

260whp would keep ME happy! I'd be scared for my rods everyday though.

I agree FULLY. I hate when people say "if you want that much power, why not buy a mustang". I love my focus, I dont want a mustang, I dont wanna be another lemming, I'd rather do something different, hence the fact that I bought a focus. I'd love to have a 400+hp focus. Even a 300hp focus. I'd keep it as my daily and everything, regardless of how dumb anyone thought it was.

I agree. you can never have too much.

yup yup, Im the same way. But I have to say, I think I would go with about 200 to 250 on my focus and save the bigger power for something rwd. And as soon as Im done with school thats the plan. which shouldbe soon, by winter Ill be interning, and thats when Ill be building up my Focus. Then its back to Rx-7 land. Man, Ill stop there, other wise Id be highjacking the thread.

I am working to save up on a Turbo for my 2.3 Duratec Foci. I am planning to make it run a 12 second street car. I am building the motor so it is built to handle the stress and run it to the best reliablility it can. I am hoping to see 300 to 400HP in it

I really want to build my Focus in two stages, 1st this year and 2nd next year. This year will be a good NA motor, but it also will be just waiting for a turbo, which will be stage 2, next summer. I can't wait; I'm shooting for ~300hp at the wheels, if not more

rockthezx3
04-19-2004, 10:34 PM
l88m22vette, I'm looking to do pretty much the same thing as you, but over a longer periodo f time. I'd like to have around 300-350 to the wheels when I'm finished, and still use it as my daily.

Zarelli6
04-19-2004, 10:48 PM
it wont be a daily driver.

spyride
04-19-2004, 11:46 PM
now thats nonsence, that could easily be a daily driver, just as long as the right electronics where hooked up, it might cost a bit more and be more work, and a bit more in tuning. Dont be afriad rockthezx3 and I88m22vette, it can be done dispite what the nay sayers say.

turbo989
04-19-2004, 11:51 PM
It can be done, but you have to do it right the first time. No cutting any corners and saving money anywhere. If you are going to do it...spend all the bucks for it...don't leave weak blocks, rods, pistons out there to die on you. Also make sure you got good tuning and you could be running just fine.

and a boost controller to, dont forget that, dont want to always be running high boost, just turn the knob when its time to have some fun
