: My car may be a lemon

Well my car has been hating me lately. At first I attributed it to the cold weather, but more and more I'm thinking my car just hates me.

It has been in the shop 3 times for the right rear brake squeeking.

It has been in the shop 2 times for a messed up idle which was never actually fixed by them. It's about to go back in for the same problem again.

The clutch was acting weird so I had them put the TSB clutch in. now the TSB clutch sounds like a tractor after I take my car to 6500+ for more than 20 seconds. Coming to a stop when I put the clutch in I get a loud high pitched "whhhrrrrr" noise.

I don't really know the laws for Lemon, but apparently in CA they favor the consumer pretty heavily. I love my car but the more times it goes in to the shop, the more OASIS and CARFAX reports get gunked up. I am tired of little problems I seamingly inherited from the original owners.

Does anybody have any recommendation for a lawyer, or any general recommendations?

i would go to another dealer first. brakes should of been a easy fix. lemon is when the same problem hasn't been fix but it has to have to same readings and valve for the testing. say your the 1st time they replace the ica for idle problems and it was fix but them you come back saying its started to idle funny againe and they find that egr is always open so them the lemon will not work. it has to be the same part going bad 3 time them you can call up a layer for lemon.

Apparently the number of times it has to be in the dealership before it can be considered a lemon is actually a rumor. If the car has an issue one time and it is not fixed, they will try and come to some kind of an agreement with Ford. The agreement usually ends up with Ford taking it up the ass since it would cost more for them to hire lawyers than it would to just buy back the car. I don't usually support lawsuits like this cause I can't stand ambulence chasers, but in this case I'm REALLY tired of my car F-ing up and not receiving the proper correction from the dealership.

The idle problem required me to have a rental car for 5 days, which actually broke down on my causing me to have to call a tow truck and use one of my two free tows from AAA. After I got the car back and it continued to idle strangely, I took it back again...and had a rental car again. I got tired of having rental cars after 2 times. Then I got the car back and it continued to have the same problem.

For the brakes, I took it in, and they cleaned the rotors and pads. After that the same brake started squeeling again. So I took it in again and they resurfaced the pads and the rotor. 1000 miles later, it is squeeling just as bad as ever. It is loud enough to drone out most semi-trucks that are next to me.

For the clutch, I am going to assume it sounds like a tractor because it still needs to be broken in...but if it blows on me, I'll drive the car off a cliff.

My car was umber 9XX/1XXX made in 2004. Pablo must have been discouraged when he reached the halfway point!

Whats causing the bad idle? Fuel, timing or ECU type issue?

If you just got the rotor turned down, I would just get new pads and be done with it. Be sure you know how to properly bed in your pads - and on that note are you breaking the clutch properly? I dont suppose your getting it "up to 6500" too often during this breakin period..are you?

def.. dont rev that high if you still breaking the clutch in , you can really feel how different the clutch is when its broke in, from brand new... also sucks with all your issues... i hope you get them fixed good luck bud!

It almost sounds like you have incompetant mechanics.

Unfortunately I had to drive to LA the first day I had my car back and sitting in traffic, then the next day I was in a hurry to get somewhere so I had to drive fast. The mechanic didn't say anything about breaking in the clutch so it slipped my mind. The clutch has probably 450 miles on it now so it should be at least somewhat broken in. As far as the brake pads go, the old one's were squeeking, so I had them replaced with new ones. The new one's squeek worse (still just the right rear). So something is not right with them. The idle issue is beyond ford's technical knowledge. I temporarily fixed the problem by removing the IACV and cleaning it, but the problem seems to come back every few weeks. It's gettin really really really really old.

SVT is a sporty car. People abuse it and beat the crap out of it before they sell it. Just so u know.

I guess I didn't realize that this was moved. Anyways I dunno what's going on with this car. Apparently it may not be the "IACV" that is the problem. The "pressure plate" might be the new culprit on this car. Either way, it is in the shop for the squeeky brakes this weekend. I will get the car back on Monday, and then it's going to the other dealership and I'm getting this clutch problem and idle problem taken care of. If this can not be resolved I will do everything I can to cost Ford EVERY PENNY I have put into the car, and I'll get an SI and wave good-bye to Ford for good. My faith in this car is balancing on a fishing line over a volcano right now.

It is really funny that you say that. Why would Ford slap an SVT on to a car if it wasn't going to take extra abuse compared to regular vehicles. I bought a SVT just to beat the hell out of it. I bought my first SVT, due to the fact that it was a sports car that I could beat the hell out of. If Ford doesn't think that these cars aren't going to take abuse, then they need to take the SVT symbols off car (they have already done this :P).

unfortunately SVT or not, it's still a ford. I got a KIA minivan as a rental car today and the quality is far superior to almost any ford I have been in.

turdovation, you racist POS, shut the F up. Don't ever say "Pablo" again, racist POS. You drive stupidly; your car acts badly. Duh.

You weenie, you ask for a lawyer to "help" you with your potential "lemon", then you say "don't like ambulance chasers". Whaddaya want? Lawyer or not? Or are you just whining for sympathy here? Fuggettaboudit. Bite me. Not gonna happen.

You say "I drive fast, but I do not abuse it." Yeah. Bite me again. 6500 bites per minute. On a new clutch.

And to DilSVT, who "bought a SVT just to beat the hell out of it." ... so, after you did that, how do you like walking--since you goobered the nice car(s) out from under you?

Pushing a car to its limits is a sometime thrill, not an everyday flog the dog. Babies, I've owned many fine cars and pushed them to the max. Beemers, Benz, Maserati (the real kind, convertible from Italy). But only maxed out/redlined for moments. Never grinding them down to nubs daily & constantly. I'm sorry. You puppies are sorrier.

^^ Calm yourself Claudia, Pablo is a name, not an expression of racism. If he said "Brent," I wouldnt champion the Caucasian cause and rain down fire and brimstone.

I'd be interested to hear if you have any success on getting Ford to pay their dues Turbo. I don't hear any indication to suggest your clearly abuse your car any more than most of us do, and probably less than most of the autocrossers out here. My car has been good to me, I'm lucky; knowing what I know now though, I dont think I would've gotten the car in the first place. It is the best-driving car in the segment at its time, I still believe, but as a vehicle to own every day and drive in all situations, I think there are better choices. I might exercise some of them if my resale value weren't in such a sad state...

Thanks for clarifying that man. It is a sad state of affairs if one can be labeled a racist for such an insignificant event as stating a common name to a common land. I've read "bean counter" in many a car magazine referring to cars hecho en mexico but Claudia probably wouldn't be corriendo la boca if he/she was standing right in front of me.

So far Ford has actually been pretty helpful with this. Since it was under 36000 miles when they put the new clutch in, they are willing to help me with the problem and do whatever it takes to fix it free of charge. I was disgruntled by the fact that they installed broken brake pads on the right rear, and it took 3 trips to the dealership to get it fixed but hey...if you don't count time as money, it was free. They are gonna do their best to fix my car and I got hooked up with a rental car for like 20 bucks a day which is the employee discount. I think they are starting to sense that "lemon" could become a serious issue. 10 trips to the dealership and a combined stay of over 23 days not counting the work they're doing right now.

They gave me a KIA Sedona Minivan and...sad to say...it is MUCH nicer on the inside than any Ford I have ever come across. The quality is 10x better than my SVT.

yeah, that is a factor but...come on...it's a KIA. Plus it doesn't seem that Ford has gone up in quality at all..if anything they've gone down. I got an '07 fusion as a rental car and it was garbage. It had 180 miles on the odometer and after 210 miles the car was destroyed..tranny fluid everywhere. That is no testiment to my driving, that is just how shitty Ford has become in this country.

turdovato, you said:
...I've read "bean counter" in many a car magazine referring to cars hecho en mexico...

Whatta delusion! You REALLY think that's what it means? When you grow up, you'll learn that bean counter means an ACCOUNTANT. Shows your innate racism, again. You bean-obsessed bonehead.

I understand! You live on the border, it's not really Mexico, not really the US. La frontera is its own unique tierra; I grew up on it. I get it.

FWIW, I am a little old lady, old enough to be yo mama and happy to say any of this in yer face any day.

And I do hope your little car problems get fixed. Really, child. You could use a little goodness in your life. Not that you do anything to promote it, but the world would be better if your life took a turn for the good.

Smile. Be happy.

lol it is funny how people can think that they know you enough to judge you from reading 10 sentences you typed on your laptop. Anyways, so that this thread does not get off track I will just say "lick a sack" and move on.

In the spirit of moving on i'll just say that hopefully JOHN SMITH over at Ford will fix it so that it does not in fact become a lemon.
