: 2.0 Magnum ?!?
viney266 02-21-2007, 04:24 PM Okay, let me start by saying I am a great fan of a few dodges in the past. I'm a Ford guy, but The Cuda and the super-bee , to name a few, were awesome cars. I will even admit that the srt-4, though an ill handling thing, is a very fast car for the money.
HOWEVER, I saw a neon today, an R/T , with a engine badge that said.. " 2.0 MAGNUM". Ummm, not to be to critical, but a 2.0 will NEVER be a magnum anything, what were they thinking?
azdamay 02-21-2007, 04:52 PM I never noticed that before... I have driven Neons but never bothered to look at their crappy engine, I guess. [:D]
I always associate the "Magnum" name with the 318 and the variations of that engine, but I guess it did include some others:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysler_LA_engine
If you look here, it says the Magnum 2.0 was the version that put out 150hp:

But I get your point, Magnum sort of implies, well... you know, BIG.
Onlyford4me 02-21-2007, 07:25 PM A 2.0 isn't a big engine?
FocusVet 02-21-2007, 07:47 PM A 2.0 isn't a big engine?
totally agree, 2.0 is a "run of the mill size".
azdamay 02-21-2007, 07:48 PM Sarcasm? I can't tell. But compared to 5.2 liters, yeah 2 liters doesn't seem too Magnum-like. [dunno]
I autocross with a guy that has an R/T Neon and he KICKS A$$ with that car.Header, cold air and good tires. He shames many more expensive rides.Personally,I believe the person behind the wheel is the most important part of the equation.
realitychck122 02-21-2007, 08:34 PM I got a look at a red neon/magnum today lol

5.2 ? LOL...Remember a 5.7 liter chevy ( a 350) is a SMALL block.
fwdsvtowner 02-22-2007, 09:14 AM I had the displeasure of driving a Neon R/T once, and even though I didn't get a chance to throw it into some corners, it was a dissapointment under regular driving conditions (the gearbox was especially lifeless). The R/T came to be known as the "Racing Turd." As for the "Magnum" name being used, well... let's just say the Neon should never be compared to an Omni GLH!

So when does an engine get to be called a Magnum?? How big does it have to be, like a Viper's 8.3 liter V10 or what? [burnout]
WitchCitySVT 02-22-2007, 07:11 PM Magnum is nothing more than a sales phrase on todays Dodges.
cowboydan 02-22-2007, 08:02 PM the saturn ion is only 2.0. but they have 2.2, 2.4 as well but they are all the same engine, the 2.0 is the one with the s/c. makes 205hp the srt is 2.4t makes 220- 250hp. boost is the replacement for displacement. what does the focus make with a s/c?? did the focus ever offer boost from the factory?i'm pretty sure not, and i know all dealers would gladly put one on for you, but it's not the same as factory.
