Like the title says, i have the idea in my head that i want to do a motor swap in the next year or two. First i need to pick a motor and tranny. Im thinking about the 5cyl vovlvo turbo from the MKII focus, or a v6 out of something KL01 or KL03 or what everother ones you guys can think of. RWD is out of the question aswell. I am currently driving a 2000 zetec zx3 5spd. Any imput from you guys would be great.

there is plenty of room.
should be able to find a 5.0 or even 4.6modular drive train fairly cheap.

I was coming up with some crazy combo's last week for what I want to do with my st when its paid off.
RWD w/cobra ind. rear susp.
D23 turbo 5spd
CSVT v6 5spd
3.8/4.0 v6 supercharged 5spd (out of mustang or ranger)
rx7 rotary 6spd
Never thought of the sho v8 but that would be fun too

So share them with us. I would like to hear what others are dreaming of for their projects.
I currently have the V6 bug in my head. If i find a cheap parts car i would do it tomorrow, lol.
I would also like to know wether there would be enough room to put in a turbo or SC after the drop aswell Some look a little cramped in the engine bay area................

Thats kinda why I was thinking of going with a 3.8/4.0 out of a mustang. That way you have all the options to chose from the mustang parts bin. And should mount the same as the kits for the 5.0/modular motors. A supercharger mounted on the front of the motor should still fit under the hood. With this combo you should be able to keep the power to weight ratio high and should give a better f/r weight distrabution.

Why not use whatever engine they put in those supercharged Jags? Steal the RWD or AWD system and slap er on the focus?

Forgot about anouther idea on the rear end and suspension. ^^ mentioned jag motor. You could also use Jag independent rear suspension. They've been doing on hotrods for years so kits should easily be adapted to the focus. A plus is jag uses a dana 44 center section. So for focus use its bullet proof. Unless you stick a 1000hp monster under the hood. A v12 jag motor out of the old e-types might fit.

lol V12 in a focus. I cant even imagine what that would cost, or the nightmares involve in installing it would be,

Do a Cougar/Contour SVT drivetrain hybrid. The Duratec 2.5 bolts right up to the mtx75. The duratec 2.5/mtx 75 combo is pretty potent in a Contour, I can only imagine how potent it would be in a focus. It's said to not be the easiest of swaps, but I can't imagine it being in the same league of difficulty as converting a focus to rwd. I'd suggest going doing a cougar/contour parts bin swap, but use a post 2001 3.0 litre duratec motor with svt heads/cams/intake for some extra oomph. Won't be cheap, but the smiles it'll result in when finished should be worth it. I know that the Contour folks who went from the 2.5 to the 3.0 with the svt heads/cams/intake were very happy with the performance gains.

What would the hardest part of doing this swap be, other than finding a cheap parts car. Im doing all the work my self to keep the cost down.
Also what other cars is the volvo5cyl turbo in an will they be hard to bolt up?
