I want to know if its normal for the intake control module to make a noise when you turn your car off. I have a 2003 svt Focus.

First off...[welcome]

Second off...Yes, the noise is normal.

What you're hearing is the DSI (Dual Stage Intake) switching over.
When you start the car, there's probably a similar noise.

The IMRC (Intake Manifold Runner Control) releases the tension on the cable,
and the DSI will revert to the short runner position when you shut the car off.
When you start it back up, the IMRC pulls the cable, switching to the long runners again.

Thank you very much WD40!

Just to flesh-out WD-40's reply a bit...if you are talking about a 'clunk' after shutting the engine off (anywhere from a few seconds to maybe 30) then, yes, that is normal.

If you are hearing anything different (like a repetetive grind,click-grind,click-grind,click) type noise, you should look for a broken DSI clip.

^^^It will have that grinding noise for a second when shutting off (and starting up).
That's the motor noise.
The "clunk" is from the intake manifold itself, as the DSI is switching.
It's plastic, and clunks when it switches.

But, RecoilRob is on to something, in that if it lasts any longer, you do have a problem.

There's an audio clip here somewhere...Back in a bit...
EDIT:
Found it. Last post in the following thread has a link:

(Once you're in the thread, you will need to right click save as to get the avi as the poster mentions.)
Again, if the noise is only monentary, there is no problem.

my car makes a "clinkclickclick clank clank..clank" when I shut it off. It actually soundsl like its coming from inside the car...maybe the rollers or something
