Looking for some advice here:
How much do you think I should spend for a 2002 Focus hatchback with no engine? (Let's assume that it has a manual tranny, and that all other systems are in good mechanical condition.)
Do you think it would be difficult to find a car like that?
Do cars like that get sold on ebay? Is there a better place to look -- other than craigslist?
Thanks in advance for any creative suggestions you might have.
Steve
Depending on the overall condition and how much you liked the potential car,I would say 1.5k to 3k should be a good starting point for your project.I go to car auctions every week and see older stick Zetecs (in running cond)with high mileage trading in the 2-2.5 range,so one without a motor would be priced accordingly.I am actually keeping my eyeballs peeled for a cheap sedan glider myself...I have some v8 plans.

Great idea, QQQQ. Hadn't thought of that.
I'm curious: What kind of auctions do you attend? The ones that police departments hold? Charity auctions? Estate sales?
Do you ever get into bidding wars with someone who wants the car as much as you do? (In other words, do you ever wind up over-paying?)
Let me know.
Steve
I go to dealer only auctions, like where new car dealers bring their trade-ins.As far as getting into bidding wars, well it has been known to happen.I write down a figure for a car and pretty much hold to it,unless I am pretty sure the other guy is just about to break.I have won a few cars that way.I NEVER attend public auction as that is where you will pay too much for cars.

Many thanks, Q.
I think I found a good one not too far from me.
If you're curious, here's a typical inventory list:
