Mustang GT-R

Ford is to unveil its Mustang GT-R concept car at the New York Motor Show this week. Based on the all-new 2005 Mustang, it is "a tribute to 40 years of performance" with a 440bhp 5.0-litre 'Cammer' crate engine, Ford Racing six-speed transmission and Valencia Orange paintwork in tribute to the 1970 Mustang Boss 302 Trans-Am race cars, the "Yellow Mustangs".

wow, that wing is huge but the front looks insane.

I like the car just no the paint I want it in blue with a less gay wing but I guess ill settle for that

Check out the interior (http://www.webwombat.com.au/motoring/news_reports/mustang-gtr.htm). It looks like its completely stripped, no a/c, no sound deadening, no insulation, no radio.

i love the car, but i would have to remove that wing, i want a car, not a plane....

they have have it that big cuz youll need it....that thing would rip!

The wing would actully have a purpose on this car.

taking that wing off would be like buying an EVO or STI and disabling the rear drive axles........pointless, gay, and performance hampering

That front end and the hood are awesome. Much better than the stock GT. I esp love the lights and the SVT-style fogs.

i didnt say the wing didnt serve a purpose, i just think it looks horrible. its just my opinon.

I don't like the looks at all.

Ford makes a cobra race model called:

Ford Mustang Cobra R

Now if ford makes a GT race model, wouldn't it be obvious to call it:

What would you have them call it?

it's a race car, so it's supposed to have a wing

Obviously pandering to the fast and furious crowd. Concept has some great design points.

- Hood scoop has to go. Is a 69-70 non-shaker scoop mounted backwards.

- Headlights are cool as hell. But would probably never see production.

- Fog Lights are cool and likely will see production on some version of the car.

- The side exhaust will never see production.

You know as I look more closely at the pics, I think it's a high quality photoshop job. Look at the side exhaust in the different pics. Looks fake. None of the pictures have the crispness of a pic of a real car.

R-Model. Like the last one (2000), and the one before it (1995), and the one before that (1993) and the R-Model Shelby from the mid 60's. I think they'll follow history on an actual car that they build. If they build it. It makes sense and the new design evokes Mustang heritage.

Look at the window sticker for an mustang cobra R, it says for example. 2000 Ford SVT Mustang Cobra R.

Not R model.

Look at the shelby series cars, GT350R, GT500R not R model!

That thing is badass. except for the wing.

I've never heard of any Mustang referred to as an "R-model" but I've never owned one so I'm not up-to-date on all the Mustang lingo.

Apparently the wing ain't so popular, but this is a concept, and a race car concept at that. I'm sure the wing serves a purpose for racing and was carefully designed for that. If they produced a street version the wing would probably be either much smaller or an option.

I think its funny that when a big wing is on an RX7 or Supra or EVO etc thats cool but on a mustang its not.

Ford doesn't install crap to get the ricers attention. Look at the 2000 Cobra R functional spoiler and functional air dam.

Actually I think the big wings are distracting from the look of the car, no matter what brand car. For example, the Supra. I still think the car looks better without the wing than with... but so many people buy the model that comes with a wing like that, or order the wing as an option, when you see one without the wing it looks strange because you're used to seeing the wing on there. If that makes any sense.

Ive heard this is the potential 06 Cobra....anybody think it will happen?

badass car, definately mean-lookin. Why do you say the side exit exhaust wont come standard? Dont the Rouch's have side exit exhaust along with the Lightning?

Eh, I'm not really crazy about it. Looks like a Hot Wheels futuristic car.

I was refering to that particular setup. It looks like it comes right through the interior and out the side. Lawyers would never let them run exhaust throught he interior. Out the side on the bottom maybe.

This question wasn't for me but I'd call it the new Cobra. Why have a souped GT and a Cobra? Do you think Ford will produce a GT-R and a Cobra? That would be sweet. A GT, GT-R, Cobra, and Cobra R. If this is a suped up GT I can only imagine how mean the Cobra will be.

I'm not a Mustang fan, but overall I like the looks. Except for that stupid radiator fan...that should be painted black.

Although, as cool as it is, I'll take a real GT-R any day[:D]

I think the car is sweet. I don't mind wings, but I think this one could be done better. I guess for racing it serves it's purpose. If it went street, it'd look better if they beefed up the wing a little more. I think the wing\mods needs to match the car's personality. This car is though as hell, the wing is so thin it doesn't go with the car. The wing doesn't look as tough as the car does.
