: Any SVT owners driven a Mazda3?
The Mazda3s 5-door has some impressive numbers: 160hp, 150 ft-lbs, skidpad numbers on par with the SVTF. I test drove one a few weeks ago and was surprised with the handling and the engine.
Just based on the numbers, the Focus has more hp but less torque. That should translate to a little less power at low rpm but increased pull at the top. Can anyone who has driven both cars provide input on this?

I was going to buy a 3 before I test drove my SVT, the SVT has way more power despite the lack of TQ, merging onto the same highway onramp (uphill) the SVT smoked the 3 IMO, plus they were the same price for my zx5 svt euro and a 3 hatchback with moonroof/HID/airbag , so I went with the SVT since they are limited production vehicles I figured it may hold a bit more value than the 3 and has alot more options and nice stuff for the same price as the 3...ps i payed 20k out the door for my car, the 3 was like 18600 before tax/lisc so they would have been the same price (3400 rebate from ford, 500 from mazda, both at Ford X-plan price)

ps drive an SVt around a corner fast and floor it, then try it in the 3, I'm sure you will end up driving home in your new SVT =)
Hey 04, I like that yellow. Too bad I don't want to pay the extra $ for the Euro pkg, because it's pretty sweet. :)

I test drove the Mazda 3 as well...and yes...the SVT walks all over it. I have an 03 SVT and hands down it has better manuverability and acceleration. But I was talking to one my friends from ford that said there might be a recall soon on the clutches :( So we will see what that does if it happens. [???:)]

I haven't driven a 3 yet, but I like the looks of it, and on paper at least it sounds like a great car. I'm just now starting to see them driving around on the streets. If I can talk my parents into getting a new car for my mom, and they refuse to get something expensive (my dad likes the idea of a Jaguar but my mom doesn't want a "status" car [rolleyes]), I'm going to try to get them interested in the 3.

I like the Mazda 3 it is sharp Looking I wouldn't mind taking one for a test drive ^^^ my dad is the same way he wants to get my mom a BMW suv or a Jaguar when she is happy with her Escape

Ha, yeah my mom is weird. She'll drive my dad's company car (03 Jeep Liberty) because it's newer than her car, but when we suggest a new car for her she insists there's nothing wrong with what she's got. But we all know there is! Her car is just my old Escort GT that I bought as a stop-gap solution between my MR2 and the Focus - it looks great and runs great but sheesh it has 200,000 miles on it, and she deserves something a little nicer than an ESCORT! Moms are weird sometimes...

I test drove a 3 right before I bought my SVT. It was nice but not very appealing inside. I love driving the SVT and for me, everything just seems to work well. I felt like I was stuck in a family wanna be car with the 3 and even though it was nice, I just wasnt feeling it. You just gotta try it out for yourself but I like the SVT just for the sheer fun of driving this little bastard.

I like the looks and the #'s of the the Mazda, I would not have a problem owning one. My sister is looking into getting something new, I'm trying to talk her into a 2.3 Focus or a Mazda 3, I think she would be well pleased with both.

Not sure how the Mazda 3 ended up falling into this group of choices! lol
I think I'm getting my Fiancee a Mazda3.. She Likes my SVT, but wouldn't feel comfortable driving a stick everyday (especially in the winter). But she is game for the "auto-stick" the Mazda offers.. She really liked the Protege 5 & Mazda 6 I test drove before I bought my SVT.

That Mazda 3 hatch looks like a PT Cruiser station wagon.
Especially the front, it's like Mazda and Chysler are starting to share the same style of front end.
The Mazda3 hatch is a very nice car. Fully loaded with every option (which includes a DVD navigation system) they are only about $22,000, which is a smoking deal for what you're getting. Ultimately a fully loaded SVT ZX5 is probably a better deal because you can always negotiate on price with Ford, and Ford almost always has rebates. With the Mazda3, you won't get a rebate from the factory and there is probably not a lot of haggle room on the price because it is so new. The SVT is probably a little faster as well because of the higher top end, but I wouldn't call either car a speed demon.
The big problem is, Ford is discontinuing the SVT, so this argument is pointless. I would rather have the Mazda3 over the regular Focus, but I'm getting a fully loaded 2004 ZX5 for $15,479 after rebate and discount pricing. I like the Focus a lot, but it basically came down to price. If price weren't an issue I would get the Mazda3 hands down, I think it's better car.

I work at a Ford/Mazda dealership and I bought my '02 ZX5 almost 2 years ago, its a great car but when we got the new 3's on the lot I was very tempted to trade my Foucs in and still am, but I'll wait about a year or 2, being that the 3 is a new car they need some time to work out the bugs, we've been getting quite a few 3's coming in with "check engine light" on, but the 3 is awesome, you get a lot for the money, nav system, abs, leather, hid's the list goes on.

Doesn't really look like it the front has a similar curve its like a less ugly PT cruiser without all the stuff that makes the PT cruiser suck
