: Speed limiter?
bart_dood 01-13-2007, 03:54 PM So I was driving from Norcal to LA on thursday night pretty fast :) and I got to 110mph and my focus sudden jerked and felt like it was cutting out. I slowed down a bit and it was fine no problems.
Does the 2.0 zetec manual have some kind of fuel cut off at high speed? or did my car have a problem?
Duffman355 01-13-2007, 03:57 PM yep all foci (unsure about SVT) have a fuel cut off. They range from 120 on the ST to like 104 or 108 on the old SE sedans. You wanna get rid of it, get a tune
EvilGenius 01-13-2007, 05:42 PM Yes, it kicks in at 108, sometimes mine doesn't kick in until 110. Either way you'll need a tuner to get rid of it as stated above. For now I just focus on trying to get to 110 quicker than other cars.
chris_bates1974 01-13-2007, 06:11 PM That's outrageous. If they did that to a car here, there would be a revolution. The only limiters here are on 50cc scooters, and some German cars which are limited to 155mph because they get driven at crazy speeds there.
I was on the autobahn near Kaiserslautern this June doing 125mph, when a Porsche 911 (997) flew past me like I was stood still. It must have been doing 160-170.............
Jonnerboy 01-13-2007, 06:14 PM I have maxed out at 132 on my SVT
EvilGenius 01-13-2007, 06:42 PM That's outrageous.
I concur!
Unfortunatly our roads aren't the same quality as the autobahn. Smaller lanes, thinner pavement yadda yadda...all reduce the ability to maintain ultra high speeds safely. Also it's much easier and economical for a stupid person to aquire a driver's liscense here.
lildisco 01-13-2007, 06:47 PM roads have a little part with it, but it's the factory speed rating of the stock tires that are on the car. They can't exceed the speed the tires are rated for. Cheapie factory tires = low speed limiter
EvilGenius 01-13-2007, 06:59 PM Good point. Forgot about that. So I guess tires must cost a butt-load over in Europe then. Atleast in Germany.

Well, you can get Z rated tires for like $70 from tire rack (BFG g-Force sports) although I know that probably wouldn't cut it for your run-of-the-mill autobahn traveling Porsche. [driving]
edmhatch 01-13-2007, 09:29 PM 110 in my 07. its a zx3 and i got pissssed when i realized it went 110. it will climb to 140 no problem i know it will- how much will a tune cost to get rid of the govener
EvilGenius 01-13-2007, 09:57 PM If you mean tune as in taking it too someone, i'm not sure. But it'd probably be in your best interest to get a tuner like the Xcal II to tune your car with. You'll be able to get rid of the governer and control many other aspects. I think they're usually around $400 even.
dazada 01-13-2007, 10:04 PM I concur!

I was walking past my living room, and saw a documentray or something on the autobahn. You can actually get pulled over for traveling too slow, or not staying in the right-hand lanes when not passing. I wish the law was more like that here.

Here in Texas. You have to do atleast 40 on the freeway in free flowing traffic or you have to pull onto the shoulder and use your hazards. That might only be on the Interstate though.
ktwelsch 01-14-2007, 12:44 AM Dude.....How much to fly my focus to the great country of Germany? :D
AcIdBuRn02ZTS 01-14-2007, 12:57 AM arnt the tires on the ZTS' speed rated? i thougth the ones that came on my car from the dealer where... atleast w/ the $800 price tag just for rubber... they should be.
anyways... mine cuts out right around 110 aswell.... although im sure it has enough gear to bury the needle

EvilGenius 01-14-2007, 01:59 AM arnt the tires on the ZTS' speed rated?
Well technically any tire is speed rated.
edmhatch 01-14-2007, 02:00 AM certain tire rating for different speeds. Z rated is for 210mph aint it?
05zx4st 01-14-2007, 02:55 AM ^^^
a focus will take a LONG time to get to 140
SVT_BMXer 01-14-2007, 03:28 AM ^^^

Oh yea? [deviltail]
chris_bates1974 01-14-2007, 08:08 AM Mine maxed at 132 as well!!!
Autobahns rock, for most of the time there is no limit, but round bends or over bridges it's the kmph equivalent of about 80!
As far as lanes go, ther are usually two on the long range cross country routes, and if you stay in the overtaking lane too long, there is usually someone in a BMW M5 or Merc E55 AMG flashing at you to get over in about ten seconds flat!
HaveBlue83 01-14-2007, 09:10 AM the non SVT's are limited by non Z-rated tires.
yeah, My SVT hits a brick wall at 130ish.........the drag coefficient of a bean car.....[hihi]
