: 3" exhaust queston for Tom
jstuver 01-13-2007, 01:00 PM Hey tom, I know you have stated that there are good gains to be made from a 3" exhaust on an n/a svt- my question is, does this take away from the bottom end power or is it across the entire rpm range? also do you have a before and after dyno of switching to a 3" that you or anyone else who has this could post, if not what kinda numbers are we talking about with this setup- also do you have a program/tune for the predator for a 3" exhaust. Thanks any info will be greatly appreciated- by any and all who contributes- thanks again
1turbofocus 01-13-2007, 04:53 PM I dont have the dyno on this computer , dont remember the gain but think it was in the 7 to 9 hp range will try to get on the dyno and find it
Yes i have a tune for the 3 inch
Tom
jstuver 01-14-2007, 12:16 PM cool- post it when you get a chance i'd really appreciate it- thanks, also is that across the entire rpm range or at the top end or do you lose low end power at all?
CaysE 01-14-2007, 04:05 PM Would like to see the dyno as well.
Goat Roper 01-14-2007, 04:10 PM I am in the same boat as Tom on this one, a 3" exhaust does an engine good even on NA. I have it and besides the obvious power gains the 3" just sounds better [:)]
Yes you will see gains but only after like 4500 rpm. Youll get horrible gas milage if you drive lowend though
pocus02x3 01-14-2007, 09:21 PM I wouldn't say that. I still get 28mpg on the highway with my 3" and everything that is done to my car. I even stay above 20 when i've been messing around and doing alot of city driving I think thats pretty good
Goat Roper 01-14-2007, 09:39 PM I got 37 mpg before I started to go goofy with it adding more mods.
03OrangeSVT 01-15-2007, 06:48 AM Youll get horrible gas milage if you drive lowend though
Theres no way you can back up a statement like that.......
I ran 3" on mine for Months prior to getting the turbo installed, it had more power... even down low and it did not effect the milage.

Not at all , low end wasent hurt at all from what i remember , I start my Dyno runs from 2000 on and from what i remember there was no loss and im thinking a gain from 2000 on with going to 3 inch
Im leaving for Co. early in the morning to tune a Focus and will try to find this dyno when i return
Tom
mbx5brian 01-15-2007, 07:05 AM tom about how far are your shop from wiston salem
03OrangeSVT 01-15-2007, 07:12 AM He's about 15 miles west of Charolette in Belmont.
jstuver 01-15-2007, 08:16 AM i cant wait to see the dyno
Turbo Turtle 01-16-2007, 10:15 AM on the 3" exhaust setup do you have to custom build one or is there a company that makes one? im going turbo and i was just wondering b/c im deffinatly getting one either way:)
svtguy21 01-16-2007, 10:23 AM he has a place close to him that will do it at decent price.
Turbo Turtle 01-16-2007, 10:34 AM i'll prolly do it my self if they dont make a kit, i was just wondering if they did
CaysE 01-16-2007, 10:38 AM trubendz makes 3" flex-backs and flexpipes.
cayres 01-16-2007, 10:45 AM does a 3 inch just sound like crap on a n/a focus???? I am getting a turbo set up and a 3 inch will be a must but i was thinking about just putting it on now. does anyone have any sound clips of a 3 inch on a na svt or even a reg focus?
Thanks
Chris

trubendz makes a 3" exhaust with your choice of mufflers from magnaflow borla and i think a couple others
jstuver 01-16-2007, 11:26 AM hey guys- when i do go to a 3" should i do the flex as well or it wont make a difference w/ a 3" flex- i mean my hfc will only 2.5 so would it even matter to do a 3" flex?
BlackNRed01 01-16-2007, 12:46 PM i dont believe anyone makes a 3" svt flex
CaysE 01-16-2007, 01:22 PM i didn't realize the flexpipe is different between the regular Zetec and the SVT's. Sorry! Is the stock SVT flexpipe 2.5" ?

i think trubendz does but im not sure i will check
jstuver 01-16-2007, 02:53 PM http://www.trubendz.com/home.asp?producttype=exhaust&productfor=focus_flex&productid=15323&pagetype=detail
this is what they have on there website under zetec not sure if it works on an svt
CaysE 01-16-2007, 05:45 PM SVT flexpipes are different. The attached pic shows the SVT exhaust in the back (with an offroad pipe), and regular Zetec exhaust in the front.
svtguy21 01-16-2007, 06:03 PM my 3in exhasut doesn't sound all that great with out my turbo applicaiton. i just had a local exhaust shop weld the 3in pipe onto my exisitng flex pipe worked quite well
1turbofocus 01-17-2007, 10:03 PM FocusSport 4-2-1 header with Focus Central 2.25" flex into a 3" exhaust
Why on earth would you want to go to that header over a SVT header i thought the reason we did all this was to gain power ? why change to a header that will loose power
Going from a 2.25 exh to a 2.5 is a waste of time and money
Yes you can buy a 3 inch flex
Tom

Well actually that was my old header but my new header won't make you much more impressed, the JBA. I looked at the SVT but am going to try this JBA first. We plan on dynoing the SVT header to see what it will do in comparison.
I don't know Tom, I never had a bad experience with the old 4-2-1 and made very good power NA. We will see what the dyno says when we try different headers out.
CaysE 01-17-2007, 11:26 PM LOL I think the key here is that Goat Roper has a ZTS, not an SVT.
Where can we get a 3" SVT flex?
cayres 01-18-2007, 09:26 AM you can buy a 3 inch universal flex and have brackets welded on...just google search it and youll find a lot of companies that sells them

Tom was saying that you can buy a svt header for around the same $ as you would spend on the FS header. So why not buy the svt one...I think??
svt2sho 01-18-2007, 11:07 AM try the 3 inch throw it on the dyno and see what happpens...
jstuver 01-18-2007, 04:54 PM isn't there any reputable company's that make a 3" flex for the svt?
Pitch Black216 01-18-2007, 06:35 PM i had a FS header and a 3 in exhaust. it was SO LOUD. but once i put my turbo on it sounded alot better. but NA it sounded like crap.
jstuver 01-20-2007, 12:26 PM hey tom have you found that before/after dyno yet for the 3" exhaust?
jstuver 01-21-2007, 03:32 PM bumpity bump bump...bump bump
macdiesel 01-22-2007, 09:28 PM Would be interested in a dyno as well.
superchop 01-22-2007, 09:32 PM Give him some time...Cause i do remember he said that he was going out of state for a few days to dyno tune someone's car. So I doubt he's at home right now and most likely won't be able to post it up till later this week.
jstuver 01-22-2007, 10:01 PM i think hes back now- but im not sure i saw him posting on here yesterday sooo.... im assuming he's back
finalley 01-23-2007, 09:30 AM i think hes back now- but im not sure i saw him posting on here yesterday sooo.... im assuming he's back
OR... Since he's going -a-tuning, he most likely has his laptop, and answered remotely.
CaysE 01-23-2007, 10:02 AM In any case... [crowd chant]DYNO! DYNO! DYNO!... [/crowd chant]
03OrangeSVT 01-23-2007, 12:22 PM I talked to Tom yesterday about it, he said he had to dig up the dyno, its from '02 so its on the old PC.
jstuver 01-24-2007, 03:33 PM cool cant wait
jstuver 01-26-2007, 09:30 PM bump - tom found it yet- sorry dont mean to drive you crazy but people are dying for this dyno so we can put thid to rest once and for all
