: V8 Focus....too much of a project?
I bought a '00 ZTS Zetec at the auction this week with a bad mtx75 tranny..CHEAP,($1k).Atlantic blue very clean (in and out) car with 123k on it.Now I'm thinking,I have a 347 stroker (dynoed at 375hp) sitting in the corner and a front k member out of a fox mustang with suspension.I take the k member and mount it in the Focus so I can use the Stang lower control arms,spindles,brakes steering rack and motor mounts.Use coilover Stang struts up front.Looks very dooable.I have a C6 small block BP tranny and an 8.8 3.73 GT rear as well.The only tough part looks to be the rear install without buying one of those install kits($950 bucks) I've been thinking about this for awhile and along came the perfect car to do it to.All said and done it might be an interesting project.No?Is it worth the effort or just better to keep thinking about it?[strongman]

I think in can safely speak for everyone here.
It's not like it's your DD or anything, just take your time, and you'll probably be the first to have a V8 conversion sedan. [screwy]

like others have said, its not your DD. Which means you have the luxury of doing very little or a lot on your time/money schedule. I plan on doing that conversion at some point once I get settled down somwhere and have a garage. So... DOOOO ITTT!
Sounds like you got the majority of parts already. YOu just need to put some labor in there to convince the Focus to take the engine, and you are easy street.

I'm not much of a fan of going from EFI to carbs- assuming that's what your V8 has, but hey, it's a heckuvalot easier than making Mustang OBD1 electronics work in a Focus. I think the fuel pump is going to give you fits one way or the other, and the only way to get around that is fuel cell unless the opening in the tank is similar to an older Ford design.
Regardless, I believe that the instrument cluster in the Focus gets it's signals from the computer- ergo- remove all dash. Sell the airbags- $900 positive cashflow for gauges. Strip that puppy down, sell everything you can, and you should be able to get back most of the money you spent at auction or whatnot. Then, it's race car building time. [hihi]

You will also need the Rear coilover shocks.
I have fitted the rear setup to mine and think it's well worth the money, it will take you hours of measuring and fabrication to get the geometry correct at the rear if you do your own set up.
It took me 1 day to remove all the Focus rear, including fuel tank and cutting out the floor AND then to fit the new rear set up, not including running new brake lines.
All the new parts use at least 1 existing hole in the chassis and rear end, so there is no measuring to do, just drilling some extra holes and fitting the bolts.
I have an early setup (purchased 3 years ago). I understand they have changed the design since then, but I'm sure the install will be just as simple.
UK,I was just looking at your car online (nice job,by the way)and that is why I am seriously thinking of doing the "kit" for the diff install.I have a set of coilovers from a Stang project for the rear already.I have a lot of V8 Mustang fox stuff at my disposal...just kind of wondering if it's worth doing over another Mustang.I do like my Foci,but mainly because they are light and agile.Once that hulking engine,trans,diff are in there,it is sure to be pushing 3k lbs. If you diet a Fox Mustang you can get there too... and yea,it will be carbureted with a distributor.

I hear ya,but I have burried myself in many 'O project before and have learned to walk softly and slowly...I also have a 1998 Explorer 5.0 AWD (w/factory posi,3.73 gears)complete chassis/drivetrain sitting in a corner (with electronics)...hmmm....me thinks I have too many corners....

Hmm... does Kugel have a RWD kit that works on a cdan? I bet there would be a lot more fab work involved than the usual ZX3 conversion, which is already quite a bit. But hey, everyone here including me wants to see it done.
