: 93 octane?
Jman215 11-25-2006, 09:30 AM I live in an area with octanes 87, 89, 93. I know that the SVT says to put in 91. If I put in 93 all the time is that okay? Mainly, is it bad if I put in 89 or 87? I just put in a tank of 87, is that bad? My guess is that I should consistently put in 93.
SVT Robzor 11-25-2006, 09:35 AM While some SVT engines will run fine on lower octane, at least according to owners, its a really good idea to put in 91 or better. You wont blow the engine to run a tank of lower octane, but you might ping, which is bad for basically everything.
Here in Maine I get 93 at nearly every station, its what I run through every tank.
Logan175 11-25-2006, 09:38 AM what he said ^^^^^^^.
But if you are to confused about gas for your svt, Ill be more than glad to take your svt off you hands. I will be gald to make u an offer. lol :P

WitchCitySVT 11-25-2006, 09:49 AM One tank should not hurt you ,but i wouldn't suggest you do it again. I run 93. It's the only thing available to me.
svt2nv04 11-26-2006, 01:03 AM please don't ever use 87 octane again.
just put the 93 in if you don't have 91, a higher octane is required for a reason.

i don't know if you saw this thread or not, my guess is no, but maybe this would help a little too

why risk it bro ?
your only saving a few dollars anyway.
rockthezx3 11-26-2006, 01:56 AM I've used 93 since day one. I would never put in anything less.
BlueOvalFan 11-26-2006, 02:14 AM only time my car got 87 was when the dealor filled it up....Go figure
ebayfocus2 11-26-2006, 09:25 AM put 1/2 tank of 93 and 1/2 of 89 then should be about 91 if your that worried about wasting 2 points :)
slocussvt 11-26-2006, 11:24 AM I've used 93 oct since i've had the car. The sticker on the gas door says "91+ oct", which means not to use anything less then 91 oct. It doesn't mean you can't use 93 oct. The SVT is a high performance engine that requires a higher octane gas. I would never put anything less then 91 oct in your car again.

And only save about $1 and then spend the time to hang up the nozel and restart the pump. Since you said you did fill up with 87, DONT RUN THE ENGINE HARD. For just cruising you will be fine but if you try and push the engine you may start pinging. Me personally, I use 93 or 94 when I fill up usually about once a week, I dont mind spending an extra $2 a fill up which ends being like an extra $10 a month, its not worth risking your engine to save minimal money compared the cost of rebuilding or getting a new engine. I've also heard people say "just fill up with 87 and get some octane booster". For one thing in no way is this cheaper, a good bottle of the stuff costs $5, say you fill with 87 and it costs you $25 and then a $5 bottle of booster, thats $30 vs. spending $27 on filling with premium. Also octane booster will only raise the value like .5 MAX so its not worth it...just use premium
turbovation 11-26-2006, 07:15 PM I would definitely stick with as high an octane as is readily available to you. you're lucky you get 93. Out here in CA we have 91 as a maximum in most parts. Like everybody else already said, I'de recommend going by the books on this one. I HIGHLY doubt that one tank of 87 is going to 'F' up your car, but don't make a habit of it if you love your SVT.
