I have a new 03 , and am wondering if anyone may have this problem. It seems the car chugs at low speeds and just under 3000 rmp it doesnt feel like a surge but a slight drop in power and then back up never faster and usually when cold any info or ideas would be great

try this www.alldata.com/TSB when you fiind it print it and take it to the dealer. hope it helps. My car was doing this and it was also reving between gear shifts with no throttle being applied.

it revs high inbetween shifts because it is electronically controlled, everything in the svt is electronically controlled, as for teh surging mine does the same thing when its cold, i had a friend who had a jetta that did the same thing if u let the car warm up it doesnt do it.

give the ecu reflash a try... get the YRFO update.. that should take care of most of the stuff you mentioned

I must be a lucky SVT owner cause thank god ive never had any of these problems knock on wood

I've got it too. Been in once and malf not confirmed. I'm gonna have to communicate directly with the tach as service writers are no good at getting the correct info to them sometimes.
I called it "hunting" The engine didn't want to settle down to a particualr throttle setting at light load between 2000-3500 RPM. Most noticable in 2nd or 3rd gear (probably 1st too but I never checked).
It does it warm too.

Are there any major fixes that Ford has for this car?
Ford has a Technical Service Bulliten (TSB) out that essentially covers intake and Computer updates and fixes. If you are having significant drivability problems with regard to idle quality, power and fuel economy, take it in and have them reference their Oasis system for the fixes (TSB #03-19-11 (YRFO). as of 2003-10-01).

The YRF0 is the latest band aid from Ford for the SVTF ECU, the reflash is supposed to fix the annoying surges, high idle, cold start problems and etc, etc, etc. Do a search of the SVT Forum for YRF0 and you will find more than enough information concerning the issue. [;)]

I also feel a slight change around 3000rpm. but I have allways thought that was due to the dual stage intake rotating to a different pipe.
I mostly feel it while coasting when the engine is idleing down.
I am haveing the ecu flashed @ my next oil change so I will let you know if that stops,

Even after the newest PCM flash my car runs awfull on cold start for the first 30 seconds. Some times its almost running on 3 cylinders only but never sets a misfire code or nothing.I just let it sit for that amount of time before taking off.The surging when going slower speeds when cold is gone though which was my main complaint before the flash.
