: Hold out for Focus or...

I have a 2000 Taurus SES 24V DOHC 3.0L V6 that I can buy for about $5,000 bucks this week. About 40,000 miles on it. It's pretty quick, handles awesome. Should I hold out for the ZX3 or go with the SES? i'm sure I'll get soem biased opinions, but seriously though I'm having trouble deciding which to go with.

The Taurus is one of the most non-distinguishable characterless cars on the road.
I had two for rental cars, they were crap.

Are you looking to keep it stock? Do any AutoXing? To be honest I don't like the looks of the Taurus, it way too conservative for my taste.

I personally think the Taurus is pretty ugly. Have you driven a zx3 before? Go with whichever you feel more comfortable in.

It is a little too conservative looking and yeah they don't have much carracter. But they drive nice and it's cheap with low mileage. I lean away from it because it's a "family" car and I don't have a family and don't like 4 doors cars. It has it's stong points and that's why I question which I want.

I've driven both. The ZX3 I drove handled way better than I expected it would. Power was good. Road manners were excellent. Same with the Taurus. On style alone I'd go Focus. either ZX3 or SE 5 spd wagon.

If you like the Taurus you might want to check out a low mileage Taurus SHO. If you think the Taurus handles well you should drive a ZX3 with an aftermarket suspension. You'll be in Heaven. The Contour SVT is a somewhat conservative high performance car also.

This is a big part of why I like the Focus. It handle quite nicely when I drove one in 2000 before I bought my V6 Mustang. With a suspension setup like the Eibach Pro Kit...WHOA BOY!!!

Be carefull with the SHO's they have some problems which can be expensive to fix, cam gears and transmissions to name a few.

no SHO...unless it was a V8 SHO. And that's not happening.

My experiences with a Taurus is not good. I have come to call them TAR-ASS.
Okay, just my $.02

Just go with the focus, you'll be glad you did

I had an 89 taurus for my first car, haha, that thing sucked. I also say go with the focus.

I say you should go with the focus. It is roomy and personally my bf was never fond of american cars but now he's thinkin of buying the ZX5 after driving my ZX3! We have a family so a ZX5 is nice for all of us.

not overly impressed with the taurus. It's a plain and simple blend in look like everyone elese car.

my g-ma has a tuarus....its a ncie car if you wanna haul dead people you killed ;) nah its a great car for a good price but if you hold out you'll like the new car better....your the only one whos drove it, its new, you can say you bought it (the best part) and you can do whatever the hell tyou want to it and its under warranty (depending on what you put on)...hold out :)

I've never heard anyone compliment the Taurus' handling. Has anyone else ridden shotgun in an aggressively driven Taurus? It was one of the scariest experiences I've ever had. That was one trip through Arkansas I'll not be missing.

You can get a low mileage focus for less than the tauras...my dad has one (a 94 though) and I drove that to college before I bought my first car, it does drive nice (kinda floats...squooshy suspension) but a Focus is waaayyyy better. you can buy my wifes 01 Silver Focus SE 4door for $5k its only got 16k miles on it =) she wants a 4Runner now hehe

my mom drives a taurus but she loves driving my dad's focus so from that, so from that i think it's safe to recommend the focus over the taurus

I've never driven one. But I see them enough. (Taurus I mean)
You could get a used Focus for that much with not many miles.

I've had three Taurus wagons ('89, '93 & '95) and liked all of them. They were comfortable and handled well (for a wagon). The only problem I had was a bad head gasket on the '95 (3.8 engine). I also had a '97 V8 SHO that was probably one of the best performing cars I've owned. Still sorry I ever traded it. I really like my wife's '03 Zetec SE sedan (auto) but it ain't in the same class with that SHO.

i vote go with the focus. i never liked the appearnce of the tauras. i am not a big fan of the "family" car.
