My tranny is fine (so far, *knock on wood*). But, after reading about some tranny' issues on FF, I'm wondering how much of a beating the Getrag' can really take. Any thoughts anyone?

what issues did you read about? the getrag is an awesome transmission, put some royal purple synchromax in her and she'll definitely treat you right

I think it's like any other component on the car.
While the Getrag is well built, if you beat the crap out of it and don't properly maintain it,
it will fail like anthing else would.
These trannys like smooth shifting drivers, and greatly reward someone that rev-matches.
If you hammer the shifts, and slam the shifter like Superman, it's not going to last.

Yes, there were some faults with the original flywheels and clutches.
But, there is a TSB (http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=28760) that rememdies those problems.
Most of us that have had the update have been fine ever since.[;)]

Yeah the Getrag is a great transmission, but it's the parts inside of it that Ford went with origianally. The newer stuff they used after the TSB* are much better. They went with the lowest bid on the original clutch and because of it, it cost them more money in the end from all of the TSB's they had. I can honestly say though the new clutch they went with was better than the old one. But yeah the getrag design it's self is very durable.

'cool. I'm usually pretty careful; 'meticulous about rev-matching as well. ANOTHER QUESTION: My SVTF is the '04 EAP. Would that also included the "corrected" clutch and other stuff as well? 'Just need some reassurance I guess. I'm happy otherwise.

^^^Nope.
The latest clutch TSB (linked earlier) came out after the end of the production run for the SVTF.

Did you buy your car new or used?
If used, you can have the VIN run by the Dealer (and a couple members on this site) to see if any TSB work has been done or not.

FYI most shift fork damage is cause from trying to force the gears to change before the syncros are spun up.

^^^ I am aware that I probably did it to the tranny. After I got into the wretch the first time I relized that I could lose the car at anytime so why not enjoy it alittle. (i USED TO BABY IT) Now Im goin to tone it down alittle.

I got my NEW "FREE" FLYWHEEL/CLUTCH TSB combo and it works much better (the feel is better too)

What surprised me was the master (clutch) cyclinder was leaking...(some cylinder was leaking)

sorry for kinda hi-jacking this thread but since the topic of TSB's were brought up I had to ask....

After reading some of the posts on here on the TSB with the clutch/flywheel I called the dealership I bought my car from - only had the car 3 weeks. They said just because there is a TSB doesn't mean they are going to fix it for free. Also, they said if they get it apart and the parts aren't worn or there is nothing wrong they are going to charge me for all the labor. What can I do???? Any suggestions? I dont want to take it in and get a huge bill that I can't afford and then be SOL without a car.

they can't charge you for that if you're under warranty BUT let me explain.
They aren't or SHOULDN'T (and make sure you tell them) just tear into the tranny. there are a couple of other things they have to check first before they do. they are like guidelines they have to follow. i brang mine in and they didn't even touch the tranny. they checked what they were suppose to before all of that and said that the clutch was still good.
if there isn't any noise at idle or noticeable problems with the clutch, i wouldn't bother with it.

Who exactly should we contact about running a check on the TSB? I guess I should probably do this since I bought my car used a few weeks ago. What does "TSB" stand for anyways?

Call your local SVT dealer and ask them about it, thats what I did. I bought my car from an SVT dealer so I just asked them. I called them and they said bring it in and they have a check they will do, just like richiejerzee4lfe said, and then they will tell you if you are eligible for the fix. TSB stands for Technical Service Bulletin. Although the dealer will tell you it is not equivalent to a re-call. Bastards!! You know the parts are bad, yet I have to break them before you will fix them. I guess it saves money though, right?

I am just saving up for a Fidanza fly. and a clutchmasters stage 3, that should solve the situation don't you think? I will be throwing in a Torsen T2 as well ( cant afford a quaife)

Shit, these tranny take a beating like any other race car I've had in the past. Boosting 15lbs, raceing 2-3 times a week. Never had any problems. Just properly maintaine your shit and you'll be fine. Also, I powershift, I speed shift, and I granny shift depending on what situation. 25k miles

not sure why you were mad, it was out of warranty. Now does it suck that it waited until then to go? sure it does.

problem is, i bought it 34K on it....i hadn't a clue..i called SVT, and they said dealership would pay for it..WRONG. and I ended up with a crushed cv shaft b/c an idiot didnt put a bolt back on correctly (i.e. driverside mount bolt) but trust me, they paid for it, and my rental for 2 weeks, as well as hyaving the shit chewed out of the guys who were responsable) and they couldnt find a TSB for the clutch! so i printed off all of the tsb's off here, and they still denied me such a thing existed..btw, a factory clutch/flywheel/pressure plate/slave cylinder install runs around $1,800
