as the title says, i got my exhaust today. i cant wait to have it installed. im thinking of gettin' up early in the morning and installing it before work. the thing is, ive never installed something like this and was wondering how hard it was and if there is any cutting involved. if anyone has a link of how to install a borla catback, it would help a lot. if it seems too hard, im gonna get my friend to call up a guy he knows to install it for me. but that wouldnt be till this weekend and i dont wanna wait that long.

n to install a new cat back, take a hacksaw or sumtin that can cut metal, cut in front of the rear muffler.. then remove the 2 bolts holding the cat back and the flex pipe together..have fun if they rusted.lol..thats y i gotta take it to a shop..

they shouldnt be too rusted. the car is still kinda new. only had it for a year.

ok, they take a 9/16 or 11/16 n also..jus slide the exhaust out of the rubber hangers,, use sum wd 40 to loosen up th bolts and help slide the exhaust out the hangers to

I actually just installed my magnaflow this afternoon........started about 4:30 pm, was done around 6. I had a friend help me and he had an air saw which really cut down the time to saw thru the pipe. I also needed the air saw to saw off the 2nd hanger from the front of the car......for some reason it didnt wanna come off so I said screw it and sawed it off. I used a lot of WD40 and a shit load of arm strength cause those bolts were on there tight. I really don't think you need to give yourself more than 2 1/2 hrs to be on the safe side. All in all it was not that hard of a job, I just didn't have much ground clearance to work with was my major fault. Good luck on the job and let us know how it goes![thumb]

yeah. i probably wont have much ground clearance either. im thinkin of calling my grandfather and askin if i can use his jack stands for some more clearance. all i have is the little jack that came with the car.
09-24-2003, 12:11 AM
I've never used the lil jack that came with the car..........my buddy brought over one of the big jacks with wheels and 2 jack stands with him. you're probably gonna wanna add some more time on then if all you have is the lil jack cause like I said, youre gonna have to jack the front up.....unbolt, then jack the back up to get to the rest of the bolts.......then jack the front up again to install the new pipe, and yet again jack the back up to get to the rest of the catback.

Good luck on your install. Don't want to sound like "Mom" here, but remember not to get underneath the car if lifted up by the jack but it's not securely supported by jackstands. Especially if the jack you're using is the puny one that comes with the car. Jacks can fail, and/or are easily knocked askew, causing the car to fall on you. It almost happened to me once - I'm a lot more careful now.

Very good advice SVT4ME, I used the jack in the middle and the two stands on each side of the jack........I was very careful "MOM"!

thanx for the concerns guys. i got up early this morning and tried to install it and man. the first thing i did was try to loosen the bolts holding the exhaust to the flex pipe cause u guys said that they could be rusted pretty good. god damn, were u guys right. i sprayed the hell out of the bolts with wd40 and tried to muscle them [:)][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)] off but had no luck. didnt even budge em. so i just said [:)][:)][:)] it and went back inside and went right back to sleep till 10. i got a nice little gash in my arm tryin to do that shit. so im just gonna go up to a shop called big als in the mornin' and see if they can install it before i hafta get to work. if it wasnt for those bolts man, id have that bitch on there.
09-24-2003, 09:42 PM
