: My door doesn't open!
focuson03 03-28-2004, 01:51 PM like the title says, I've been having a problem with my driver's door recently, it will only open when I pull really quick and hard on the handle. If I pull lightly it just plain sticks. the handle only pulls about 1/2 way out. . . should this be something that would be realted to my aftermarket alarm (even tho it's tied into the factory power locks)? or could it be a problem with my actual door latch? any advice would help. thanks!
-Josh
Kicknzx3 03-28-2004, 02:14 PM nope, this happened to me... the cable was binding up, and on my passenger door...somehow it busted
focuson03 03-28-2004, 07:09 PM so that means it's a warranty repair, right?
crazy_urn 03-28-2004, 10:01 PM i dont know the answer for sure, but it never hurts to go in and ask....
frogg5872 03-28-2004, 10:03 PM my passenger door is doing it....cable eh? thanks i will see if i can fix mine too...
Kicknzx3 03-29-2004, 05:00 PM if its under your milage...then its warrenty
Seashrimp 03-29-2004, 05:03 PM Both my doors are like that. you have to pull like 3 times harder than you think. In fact, there has never been a time where someone has tried to get into the passenger side and told me to unlock the door when its unlocked. I have taken it in to the dealer 2 times. First time they said that there was nothing wrong and second i waited there and all they did was oil the handle or somethin. They work a little better but randomly they will pull and only open the door half way and then they wont work at all till you open them from the inside.
~04~SVT~ 03-29-2004, 05:09 PM my dealership replaces anything that isnt working right, no questions asked....guess the blue oval cert. means something after all =)
smoknzx3 03-29-2004, 05:14 PM my dealership is getting better. It should be under warrenty my window roll down thingy broke and they fixed that.
XxDRIVERxX 03-29-2004, 06:34 PM My driver side door is like this also, I though I was just to weak to open a door or somthing, lol glad its not just me. I think im going to take it in this weekend, as its rather annoying.

focuson03 03-31-2004, 08:46 AM Well, i went into the dealership, they olied and tightened (sp?) the cable. my tech spent about 25 mins on the ford hotline trying to figure out what to do next. they ended up ordering me two new latches, they're going to end up doing both doors for me. and yes, everything was covered under warrenty
steedazts 03-31-2004, 09:38 AM my passenger door did the same thing, i dismounted the door and found a metal hook was broken, And now my wife is mad couse I cant open the door for her from the outside like a Gentleman!!! BTW i dont think im ever gonna fix it, saves me the xtra "go arrownd the car thing" hehe[:p]
i think the doors handels have a problem...
all my doors seems to be a little hard to open from time to time....
viney266 03-31-2004, 11:33 AM 03, glad to hear you got good service from your dealer!!!
focuson03 03-31-2004, 12:57 PM so was i, just as long they fix the problem in the long run for everyone [thumb]
knightm3 03-31-2004, 12:59 PM hahaha this happened to me for the first time last Sunday afternoon. I was crazy tired and thought I was just momentarily retarded.. nope, stupid door would NOT open. I had to roll the window down and let myself out! Haven't had the problem since though, knock on wood.
focuson03 03-31-2004, 01:02 PM you might want to have it checked out before your door doesn't open at all, maybe if there's enough of us with the same problem we could get a recall out of it. . .
focuson03 04-03-2004, 07:38 PM Well, I took my car to the dealer this morning before work to have the latches replaced. Too bad they didn't get the right part and decided to keep my car since they didn't want to put the door panel back on. But I guess the nice part is I did get a loaner. it's a 2002 Taurus (sp?) I can honestly say i miss my car dearly and only want her back, working door or not. lol
Maxis 04-03-2004, 09:45 PM I have the same problem with my wagon. My driver door wont open at all, I have to get out using the passengers door. [?|]
bfocused 04-08-2004, 07:58 PM It's the door latch that is the problem. Body shop manager tells me he does at least 3-4 latch replacements per week.
Off topic, but, you asked. -------------------------
And I can't believe some people don't understand what bumper to bumper warranties are. You really don't know if the repair will be covered??? 3 yrs 36,000 miles, which ever comes first. There are a few execptions, such as wear items, brakes-clutch-alignments blah blah....
Also there is a 5 year 100,000 mile power & drive train warranty. And each customer may have two after warranty adjustments for 6 yrs or 70.000 miles. The customer is expected to participate as much as 20% for AWA (after warranty adjustments). The AWA is totally at the descretion of the dealer. This is Ford's way of helping loyal Ford customers. There is also a "policy" coveage for paint damage due to acid rain or industrial fall-out.
I worked at a Ford dealer for a quite a few years, and was a body shop manager, as well as a body concern warranty administrator. I say this not to blow my own horn (pun intended [:)] ), but as a point of information. I would be glad to answer any warranty questions any member may have.

LFordChick3187 04-08-2004, 10:24 PM This is also helpful to me because my back passenger seems to do that a lot...i should really go in and get it checked[thumb]
focuson03 04-10-2004, 11:57 PM thanks for the info bfocused, they never said a thing about warranty, other than 'sign on the line for the warranty work' and then said if i fill out the survey and bring it back i get a free oil change. [thumb] anything to save a few bucks

The reason they did not want to put the door panel back on is because Ford will not pay them to do the same operation twice. Thats why you should make sure they get the all the info right before they order the part. Glad t hey gave you a loaner, most of the time the poor customer is out of luck.
