: Just a few questions for the SVT guys (and gals) out there.

OK so here's the deal, I am getting rid of my beloved 2003 ZX3 after 37,000 miles and 3 years of owning it. I love my car, I've had it since it's birth (had 20 miles on the odo when I picked it up), but the time has come to go on to something new and faster. I was at first going to get a used Lancer Evo, but the price and insurance cost will not allow me to buy that car at this time, so I had to look somewhere else. I knew I wanted 4 doors though, because I am sick of leaning the front seats down to get to the back.
So I decided on the 2003-2004 SVT ZX5 Focus. I test drove one the other day and I have settled on three that I like. Two are at a Carmax (2003 Red SVT ZX5, 27K miles, $14,998--2004 Silver SVT ZX5, 30K miles, $14,998) and one is at a local Ford Dealer (2003 Red SVT ZX5, 27K miles, $12,999). I know I don't want a black car again, even though I think that black is the best color, but I feel that silver and red are just easier to keep clean.
Now I am going to the Ford dealer and Carmax this weekend, so I just wanted to know if the prices seem fair. I will be trading my ZX3 in, as well as putting a $3000 to $5000 down payment. I really want my payments around the same. Are the insurance payments ridiculously higher for a 4 door SVT Focus?
I will also be returning my ZX3 to stock before I trade it, I know that my Konig's will fit the SVT, and I know that my AEM CAI won't, will my Tein S-Tech springs work with the SVT setup? I will be taking everything off my ZX3 (Rims, CAI, Custom exhaust, shorty Antenna, Subs, Halo lights, clear corners, and even my 2 month old seat covers). I will sell most of the stuff on here and locally.
But I just wanted to know if the prices were good, how the insurance was, and anything else that ya'll might wanna shout out. I've never dealt with Carmax before, but I've heard mostly good things, and Ford dealers, I've had my diffrences with but they've been overall a good experience. Any info about anything will be greatly appreciated because I am going to be spending money on one of my top 3 cars in the next week. Thanks ya'll

As far as insurance goes my insurance was only $13 more a month than the 2002 Ranger I owned before my SVT. I am 23 married and have 4 pts to my name and I pay $81 a month for very good full coverage. I have the 3 door and if I am not mistaken the 5 door gets another discount. I would just get the vin# and call insurance and as for a qoute.

Do a vin search and check out the link in my signature to see what others have paid for their svt's.

Check them all out before you decide on one. Try and talk them down a little... prices are never set in stone. I paid $11,200 out the door for my 2003 3dr Yellow SVTF with 36K miles. I'm 25, and only pay about $35 a month for full coverage with $250 deductable.... My insurance agent and I are close!! If any of them that you are looking at have the Euro package, I would lean towards those. The extras on the EAP are really nice. Hope this helps a little.

I had an 05 Zx3 My insurance went up 5 dollars, and my current foci is an 04 SVT ZX5 with EAP. So I have no idea why it went up this one is safer(ABS, SIDE IMPACT, Bigger brakes, 4 doors)
I love my SVT and now regular Foci are unacceptable.

the 2004 also has updated parts, so I would really look itnto that.

If you can, see if the dealer has the warrenty left on it. It's nice to get a free rental and the VIP treatment.
As far as insurance goes... mine went up 100 dollars. I'm 23 and went in with 2 strikes. But a year later and my insurance went down 125 bucks because of safe driving and all that. So I'm a happy camper.

Those prices sound a bit high, try to talk them down a few grand and then you're talking. The SVT really is a great car, especially the EAP ones, I would kill for the Recaro's out of one of those! My insurance was surprisingly low at ~$80/month... 24-year old married dude.
Good luck, bro! [thumb]

Oh, those Tein springs should work fine as well...pretty sure, anyway.

Seems like your cars are holding their value a little better now. I paid 15K for one in 04 with 4k miles, and now they are selling for around the same price with 10x the mileage.

The SVT at the Ford dealer has the best price, and I think I could talk them down on the price. it still has warranty as well, but I was thinking of getting the extended warrenty.
So the Tein's will work huh? That's good, I think that the Red SVT 5 Door, with 17'' Black Konig Hurry's and Tein's would look good. That's what I got on my ZX3.
I guess I'll have to shop around for insurance, I'll be 22 in January, and I got an out of state speeding ticket in Tennessee (75 in a 70), but I don't think that the rates should be that bad.
And the SVT I was looking at isn't the euro, but it does come with HID's, which I really want. I was gonna put in some Sparco's later, since the non-Euro doesn't come with the Recaro's. Anymore info i should know about, I am going this weekend to see the cars, what should I look after to see how its been maintained? Any usual SVT wear and tear? My ZX3 is still in good condition mechanically and fair condition exterior wise, damn GA sun... But I've had no problems with it, I drive it hard sometimes but always do routine maintenance. I just wanna know what I should look after to see if the SVT has been abused.

My car (his) was used (8300 mi) from a dealer, 'certified preowned'. Marketing BS -- but it did carry an extended warranty from them going over it. 6-yr/75000 mi. See if they will give any extra warranty like that, and for sure they have better room to negotiate $$.
Insurance? Your ZIP code costs you--Atlanta is a major metro area. Me too, Dallas Ft Worth, paying $170/mo for the 02 SVT (full coverage) + 94 Nissan P/U beater w/liability only. I'm a clean LOL (little old lady, 58) but now that I'm SINGLE (widowed last year) that hikes my rate.
Oh yeah sure, I'm a girl gone wild. I even asked for a rebate at renewal, since he'd prepaid a year's worth a week before he died. (Thinking 1 less driver = half the risk. Oh Nooooo.) The answer: really you should have paid more last year, because you weren't married. BS.
Hope you get a good deal and the next car of your dreams!

If your buying it from a Ford dealer tell them you want to see the service history and unless your going to do some extreme mods ,get the warrenty.

See if the 2003s have the 5/100 powertain warranty. I depends on when they were originally sold. That would make a huge difference to me.

whoa. tool of a cop.

"whoa. tool of a cop"
He actually clocked me going about 91 or 93 not really sure, I was heading up to Ohio with my Mom, and I had just put a " Support Police Club'' type sticker on the back that I got after I donated some money to the local cops. He seemed nice, and took it easy on me since it was my first speeding ticket.
Well I went and saw the SVT at the Ford dealer, good price, went to go drive it, seemed like something was wrong with it, like it didn't have power, the tranny seemed a little rough, got back to the dealer and looked under the hood. The stock intake was very loose and open, unfiltered air could get into the motor!! While the exterior and interior of the car looked good, the motor looked dirtier than mine! It seemed neglected, sad way to treat a SVT in my opinion. I left Ford dissapointed, I guess I'll have to try Carmax next. Anybody worked with them?
10-16-2006, 11:15 AM
Carmax tends to overprice, but you should still be able to drop it down a bit.
The insurance on mine is a little over $100 per month (but will be going up soon (http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=100772) [:(]), which is about $33 more than my 96 Ranger was, both with equal coverage and a $500 deductible. I'm 24 and unmarried, no points, (up till this past weekend) no accidents. It'll be higher than your ZX3 for sure, since parts are much more rare. The body shop told me they can ONLY get new parts for my car, which of course drives up the repair cost. Being safer just means the medical part of the coverage will be a bit lower, but overall it's still higher. Still, I love the car, so good luck! Also, get red since silver apparently has bad luck.
