: LCD w/ PS2

how hard is it to wire up a stand alone LCD screen and a PS2 into a focus....am thinking about getting 2 of the recaro headrests front a wrecked car and putting LCD's in them and hooking the PS2 to it for roadtrips, get-to-gathers etc... just wondering if its as easy as I imagine it being aside from putting the screens in the headrests....in my mind it shoudl wire-up just like a new headunit right? let me know =) thanks

it's very simple! All you'll need is screens, PS2, power inverter (300 watts or higher), RCA patch cords(red and white) for audio, and a "Y" adaptor(to send one video source in this case your PS2, to two monitors).
Hope that helps.

just dont put a screen on your dash and play while your driving down the road please.... lol
i havent seen that yet, but i have seen several people here watching something on screens in the front seat why they are driving. it always scares the crap out of me.
you might also want to think about hooking it up so you can interchange your PS2 and a DVD player, so that you can use one or the other as the situation fits. like put a dvd player under one seat, and a ps2 under the other, and just swtich the wires around depending on what you wanna do. just an idea, if i was rolling in the dough and actually ever had ppl in the back seat, i would probably do that.

why nto jsut use the ps2 for ur dvd player...it does function as both.
03-28-2004, 06:39 PM
yes it does function as both, in theory. i have heard rumors (i do not know if they are true or not) that running dvds in some ps2s can damage the laser. please correct me if i am wrong, but that is the rumor i have heard.

running dvds in some ps2s can damage the laser.
i highly doubt that. considering most all of the ps2 games are dvd's, i dont know how playing them can ruin the laser. maybe if you have a dvd or game running while driving, that might screw something up if you hit a bump or something. thats why if you put one in your car, try not to use it while driving

i just said it was a rumor i had heard. i did not claim it as fact. i even admited that i did not know whether or not it was true
when you quote, please quote in context.

only reason I will probably put both in beacause the PS2 cant play VCD's and I have alot of burned movies/anime /grin
03-28-2004, 10:06 PM
I would put both in just to show off...this has nothing to do with a focus but.....the thing that damages a ps2 the most is when u shut it off in the back without first holding in the green button until it goes red......I work at wal mart and we have had MANY! returned b/c of that and its not warranted b/c the manual tells you to do it the way i said above.

I've seen a lot of console games hooked up in car w/ LCD panels. I wanted to do that too, but had a conern about 'burn-ins' on the screen....ahem, ghosted images from the game(s).

as long as the screen doesnt sit on one image for extended periods of time it shoul dbe fine, especially if you get a high quality screen

i was wondering if any one has put screen in the passenger or driver visor's? is it hard and can you fit a lcd in the visor's or are they too thin. and what all parts and wires will i need? thanks
04-20-2004, 11:42 PM
you can buy custom visors with the lcd's already in them. that would be much easier than trying to fit one into a stock visor. search around, ive seen them all over the place.
04-20-2004, 11:49 PM
thanks that helps alot cause thne i wont have to do it or pay someone plus i still have stock visor to put back in if i want to

Hey ~04~SVT~ I have installed a DVD/PS2 in my sedan. Check my pics for results! The biggest tip I can give you with this install is take your time and dont rush the process. Also some of the hardest things in the install have the simplest solutions.
Quick Tips: [thumb]
1. Run a big enough power cable off the battery for your inveter, one thing Ive noticed is that with a big stereo that the inverter tends to trip with a smaller power wire.
2. You may down the road need a bigger alternator to compliment the system as the more goodies you add you'll need more power, Im still looking for a dry cell for the foci... anyone seen it out there?
3. If you mount the screen on the ceiling, use a butterfly bolt to hold it up, not the crapy plate the come with it.
4. Run your wires through th roof subframes. I used long zip ties then taped the cables to them and pulled them through the subframe. <--- This is also the way to run your wire for your radar detector... that way you dont have an annoying wire hanging down.
5. Placement of the PS2. Easy acess points are hard to find... I placed my under the passenger seat.
6. If you decide to put it under there. Take out your seat when you put it in, make acess much much easier!
If I come up with anything else I'll let you know.
