Ok, today I installed the new back-up lights near the license plate. Had to drill the holes in the body, so the modification is final. The lights are barely visible during the day, but pretty bright in the dark. Since the Calif Vehicle Code doesn't specify how bright they should be, I didn't bother much with this. I used a 10W bulb with the same shape as the license plate bulbs. It looks good, and it is legal - that's all I care about.

P.S. Drilling holes is not the hardest part, but running a wire trully was the pain in the ass.
