Obviously it should be much easier to install a motor of the same model year. Several years ago I had to replace the motor in my '05 ST, and was fortunate enough to find one only 300 miles away. It was in a big yard, still in the car, and sold to me with a 90 day warranty. I got a photo copy of the title certificate from the donor vehicle, for proof of origin of the "non-matching" motor's serial number. Because it was the same model year, installation was "plug and play". There should be many '00 Zetec motors around, although condition will be an issue, it will take some time to hunt one down. You might even find one in the classified section here, or on FJ. Good luck.
