The sedan does have the pass through back seat to carry long objects but your limited in height where you have more room in the hatch. But you can close off the trunk on the sedan where the hatch just has a pull cover. With the seats up and the cover one I believe the sedan has more cubic inches of storage. <----not sure on that. The interiors are the same cubic inches regardless of what model you have.
You're pretty-much correct! One problem I have is why hasn't anyone tried making a hatch bumper fit a sedan? I think a Euro hatch bumper would look awesome mated correctly with the upper portion of a sedan bumper. There have been a few people (disiplerocks) who have achieved a seamless mating process, doesn't anyone have the skill to do that to a sedan rear?
