Sounds like you have a issue with your wiring to me. My focus would shut off and turn back on or I'd loose the light and gauges but the car kept running. I went through a couple of alternators and by the time I was changing the next one my wires were cooked. I changed them out and I haven't had any problems since. I'd check the wiring from the alternator to the starter to the battery the next time your in there. Alternators shouldn't last just a year, something is causing them to go out.
I started out with nothing and I still have most of it left
