There are a few different make-ups of gelcoat. the orange pigmented gelcoat in my pic is called TOOLING GEL, meant for use in mold construction to provide a smooth surface that can be "re-tooled" or touched-up through out part reproductions.
I can touch it up with some 320-400grit paper to fix imperfections from the original part that I used to contruct the mold, and then when I make a replica of the original it should in theory be of better quality than that of the original.
That said, I have a couple corners to touch up on this mold and still have to mold the top half of the wing....then I'll be doing a test lay-up in standard fiberglass and hopefully sell a few that way to fund buying the more expensive clear epoxy resin systems required to try making them in CF.
