If the OEM winter mats covered the dead-pedal and were raised enough around the edges on to retain water, I would have gone for them, as I'm sure many here would have.

Don't get me wrong – I'd prefer OEM because it is usually a part designed specifically for my car, but if that part isn't as well designed as it could be, and there's a better 3rd-party part, I'll definitely go for it.

I had OEM mats in my previous car (a Passat) and during the winter tracked in snow would melt, run off the edges of the OEM WINTER mats (which were not much different than the Ford OEMs) and wreak havoc with the CU and TCU sitting in front floor wells underneath the carpet. I learned a lot of lessons with that car!
