Oil Temp Sensor?

I'm pretty sure my oil temp sensor is busted. Most of the time it stays at literally the dead bottom of the dial, but sometimes, if I've been idling for a while, it'll go up to about a quarter. I don't know if its broken, if I just have damn good oil, or whatever.

Should I just leave it?

Oh, and the massive pile of uninstalled parts sitting in my garage...
I like to go fast.
