Trouble Starting

I am new to here and had no idea how to post a new issue. Here goes:

Why isn't my starting unless I have my foot pressed on the accelerator? I'm worried that this is going to flood the engine or something.

In the last 2 weeks I have had new spark plugs, battery, cat, expansion tank and thermostat and lambda sensor. Have had the vacuum hose removed and a temporary one put on until I can get a new one. The idle problems that I did have (car shaking when stopped at lights etc) are now not a problem unless it is when I am just starting the car and I no longer have fault codes.

But I'm worried that if I keep having to start the car like this, it will cause more damage. When it eventually starts this way, the revs go straight up to around 3000 and I have to wait for them to drop before I put the car in gear otherwise it cuts out again (sometimes if it doesn't cut out, it jumps forward when I put it into gear).

It is a 2001 ford focus 1.6 zetec petrol automatic
