Drove my brother's GTI last week, it's got me lusting after some manner of boost for my SVT. It doesn't look like there are any *new S/C kits available these days...how about turbo? More expensive yes, but in the end it's probably better right? Does the Zetec FSwerks kit fit the SVT? Tom's turbo kit vs. the FSwerks?
I don't want to build the motor, and don't need/want 300 horsies...the goal would be to end up in the 225-250 range, comparable to a stock GTI.
Point me in the right direction for research...there is a giant sea of info out there, and I'm not sure where to start.
Toms kit works fine as does the fswerks kit. But the other essentials you'll need aren't included. Such as wideband boost gage oil pressure gage injectors booost a pump.
Ya buy a used kit. Here off of fanatics. That's your best bet. Its cheaper and a 100% full bolt and go kit. BUT you'll need an xcal 3 and a tuner such as Tom or Fasttuner aka fernando
boost is addictive. and thats what the fswerks doesnt really support because it uses the stock zetec exhaust manifold. its a great kit, but you'll max it between 250 and 300whp due to flow limitations with that manifold depending on the turbo you choose (id say gt2871 or 28rs).
toms kit is good too.
and top speeds is great if you want to shoot for 400+ whp.
Biggest thing is much less TQ then turbo and little room to grow , If you go with the PC step up to the larger blower unit , the unit that comes with the kit I have always said is to small and they do have a larger unit that makes more HP/TQ ar a less blower RPM
