I wish people would stop thinking the DSG is a "wanna-be" conventional manual trans, because it's not. But in my opinion, in the right application (GTI, GLI, etc) it is the better transmission choice. It produces quicker acceleration times, shifts far quicker than any of us could ever possibly do with a manual, downshifts brilliantly, is very adaptable to one's driving style and will withstand far more abuse without any modification than a stock GTI clutch, in particular those in a TSI engined model. The DSG is good for 450-500 lb-ft of torque, while a stock clutch is toast under mild stage 2 levels of power.
