That isn't a question I can answer completely, as I don't know of anyone who has run HID's without a relay on this car for a while.

Usually it's just better to get the relay to prevent any future issues and the fact that they are super cheap to make or buy. The Morimoto kits even include the relay in the price.

I suppose you can always try sans-relay and if you need one, buy one. It's incredibly simple to change back to stock headlights if you need to.
