On a budget? You'd be better off finding a 05-07 ST with the D23, and then turboing that after a rebuild with proper internals. It would cost about $10k less than a new ST, and you'd have everything except the nifty ABS programming that actively brakes the inside wheel in turns to help cornering, and acts to limit torque steer on acceleration. Still, 300 whp is not as wacky as you could go and that would give you a power to weight ratio similar to a Corvette. For another $5k or so you could wide body it and have something nobody had ever seen before with fat tires to compete.
An old Corvette would probably be cheaper- although those seem to stay in the shop frequently. That's the only problem with them.
