I have no idea where you got that info. but I'd really like to read it. I'm not pointing a finger at you but I would severely admonish and never believe whoever told you that.

Merc. V full synthetic is GL-4 gear rated hydraulic fluid. It doesn't even come close to motor oil. It's less viscous than straight 5 weight machine oil.
