I am curious. How many of us with the SPI Focus engine had a valve seat drop? How did it happen? What # cylinder was it? How many miles were on your engine?
2002 SE 5 speed with about 125000mi. Cylinder four went out as I was in the drivet through line for Dairy Queen... on a VERY busy night. Going to be swapping it out for a zetec. The mechanic I sent it to at first wanted $5k to get another spit port in it. Not going to happen. EVER
Just wanted to drop by and say hello. I'm the proud new member of the "SPI valve seat drop it like its hot on cylinder 4." Actually, its not dropped yet but has 90 psi compression! waaaaaaaaaa (baby sounds)
Not saying .... just saying ..... the SPI can be a great little engine with the right modifications. I have two of them, and yes both have had the head redone. The first which I documented here on FocusFanatics did suck down the #4 valve seat, and yes it munched the engine. Bought a junkyard SPI with 60K and replaced the head. We have put over 50K on it since and no problems at all. So I found another SE with SPI, it had been redone but the person who did it somehow warped the head. I replaced the head with one I bought off ebay and now my daughter has an awesome little car. FYI there is a guy here in the St. Louis area on Craigs List that sell finished completely rebuilt SPI's for $1500.
the issue is the value of my car. its not work putting in any sort of money involved with engine issues. if any one wants to buy it for parts let me know. i guess i should post a parts car in the classified section?
Bought my 01 Se in 2011 for $900 bucks. It was in good shape and I thought I stole it. Until 4 months later it dropped a valve seat.(156K miles) This is what lead me to focus fanatics and started a 5 year build the shit out of my Focus project, which is in the final stages. See my build if interested. http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/ford-focus-builds-general-showroom/555626-bad-ass-focus.html
