I used to be an mpg guy and greatly cared about mileage. The only things I really detest spending money on are food and gas. You have to spend money on both, I know, I just hate doing it.
Now I just want my car to do what's right. If I say gas, you go. 87 octane and the stock filter did not follow that mantra. I said gas, they said screw you, I'll get to it when I feel like it. Not cool.
I don't race people, and while I document hp I don't overly care about it. I just want to drive and enjoy it, and if I get some extra mpg's it's an added bonus. I still don't use my AC in the mornings, but I sure as hell turn it on after work.
I do 93 octane for the smiles it puts on my face, and the wow factor I see when another Focus owner puts the pedal down in my car.
