I am glad to see this course being taught to more than just the special operators in the military. I took a similiar course in conjunction with the IDF, Israeli Defense Force, in '84. It gives you the situational awareness to see what is normally overlooked. I have taught this to my wife and son, not to make them battlefield ready rather to be aware of their surroundings. I still do not sit with my back to a room or get into large crowds. And no I am not paranoid.
