I would definately go with an svt airbox and k&n drop in too, but I felt my car pulled better in the top end when its really begging for air as opposed to stock, such as the end of a drag when you are redlining your engine. when I was young there was a guy at work who had the same focus as i had, a automatic sedan with the zetec. I didnt know anything about modding, and put a FR underdrive pulley (didnt do much if anything), fart can muffler with stock exhaust (didnt do anything, just swapped the lunchbox out), and an ebay cold air intake. we did a 1/4 mile drag and by the end I believe he was at my rear bumper if not a little bit further back. he also had 40k less miles on his car. that led me to believe that the intake had something to add, even if it was cheap.
