Cars run a little different when cold vs. warm because of machining tolerances. Heat expands, Cold Contracts. A few thousandths or ten thousandths of an inch can make a noticeable difference especially if it was in the right/wrong part/place - compression/timing.....

Machining and tolerances have gotten better and more consistent compared to decades ago, engines are tighter now. Newer cars use thinner weight oils as proof of this. Couple that with better fuel delivery, F.I. vs. carbs and you have two of the biggest reasons why.

The car was designed to run at its best when at the higher normal operating temperature, when the tolerances were the smallest - before wear widens the gaps.

Replaced #4 Piston, Rings, Rod+Bearings, AERA Re-Manufactured Cylinder Head and a light Hone. Then CLEANED the hell out of everything.
60k+ miles.
